Chuck Tilley - Sixwire
Originally from Tuscaloosa, AL, drummer/vocalist Chuck Tilley graduated from the Univ. of Alabamawith a B.A. in Music Administration. He also studied orchestral percussion and jazz drumming with Prof.John Beck and Keith Copeland at the Eastman School of Music. From 1980-86, Chuck served in the 313thU.S. Army Reserve Band.
Since 1988, Chuck has done extensive international touring with acts such as Dolly Parton, LeeGreenwood, Engelbert Humperdinck, and the band Sixwire – which he is a founding member of. The band’sfirst single “Look at Me Nowâ€, on Warner Brothers Records, received widespread radio airplay and theaccompanying video was a top five hit on CMT and GAC networks. At the same time, he has kept a verybusy schedule playing not only Grammy and Juno award winning albums, but also movie soundtracks,various TV shows and national jingles – ranging in musical styles from country , hard rock,contemporary blues , and big band jazz.
2007 was his third season to be featured in the house band for the TV show "Nashville Star" on USAnetwork. He has also appeared on numerous other TV shows on all of the major networks, including "The Tonight Show" , "Ellen" and the "CMA Awards Show".
In the fall of '07 , Sixwire appeared on the Fox TV show "The
Next Great American Band". It was produced by the producers of
"American Idol".
Like "Idol", the winner of the "NGAB" was chosen by the viewing
audience's voting. Sixwire appeared on every episode and got the
rare opportunity to showcase several of their most recent original
songs as well as their versions of a dozen "cover" songs. Out of the
more than 12,000 bands that auditioned, Sixwire finished as the
"first runner up" in the finale episode that aired in Dec. of '07.
From March thru June of 2008, Sixwire was featured as the
"house band" on the new American Idol produced show "Can You
Duet", which aired on the CMT network. It was the number 1 rated show during it's airing. The format was similar to "Idol", but for duets only.
When not touring or doing TV work with Sixwire, you can also
catch Chuck on TV and on the road with Randy Owen, the lead singer of
the super group Alabama. Randy will be doing numerous major music
festivals this summer and fall in support of his newly released solo
album. Chuck is also touring with pop/rock star Richard Marx in 2008 as well.
In addition to the artists mentioned above, Chuck has toured, recorded and/or performed with: KennyRogers, Richard Marx, Jewel, Kenny Chesney,Billy Squier, Edwin McCain, Al Jareau, Delbert McClinton, Bret Michaels,Big & Rich, Nelson, Sara Evans , Phil Vassar , Joe Nichols, Porter Wagoner, Cliff Richard , Rodney Atkins, and many others. He has also worked with such notable producers as Dann Huff, Richard Marx, Mark Bright, Paul Worley, James Stroud, and Mervyn Warren.
Chuck uses Pearl drums , Zildjian cymbals , Regal Tip sticks and brushes , Evansdrum heads , Mackie mixers , and Purecussion percussion.
Chuck’s hobbies include: Karate (Blackbelt rank), softball, coaching Little League and deep sea fishing. He lives near Nashville with hiswife and children.
