About Me
..
Dan cut his teeth as a DJ running a road show in his early teens with a friend. Such ambition from a young age and an exposure to a wide variety of music provided Dan with the foundations of a promising career. Years of invaluable experience in building a night and reading a crowd even before he had set foot in a club meant that he was a natural when he did.
The pure adrenalin of club culture hit Dan when on a family holiday in Ibiza. Not yet eighteen, he walked through the doors of the legendary Space and an instant, but natural, new direction was ignited. Music took control of his life. Saving the pennies for over a year, Dan bought his first set of 1210s and began to learn the art of mixing to bar and club standard. Two years later Dan started working for Galaxy 101 Radio as a Technical Operator Assistant. Working alongside the likes of Paul Conroy, Deli G and Steve Denyer refined and developed his passion for House music. Taking ‘A’ levels in Music and Music Technology also assisted in providing Dan with a greater understanding of the complex modern music industry and, of course, sowed the seeds of a talented producer in the making (see below).
Throughout this time Dan continued to run his road show each weekend across the South West, even finding time to play drums in a band, before making the transition once he came of age to underground DJing, promoting and producing. Showing characteristic intuition, Dan attended record shops and collected as many flyers as he could in order to contact each of the promoters. One happened to be from Matt Johnson, who had just started promoting in the region. Dan spent time and effort putting together a first class demo CD and after hearing it and meeting with Dan, Matt could instantly tell that there was a star in the making. Dan became a part of the new night Matt was launching – New City Sound – where Dan remains, three years on, as co promoter, resident and business partner at NCS, the region’s leading House night.
After playing and promoting tirelessly with NCS in the first two years, inevitably Dan’s talents started to get noticed by other venues and promoters in the region, including Bristol super club, The Syndicate, nights such as Prominence and, further afield, by iconic venues such as Turnmills in London. Dan’s schedule is now so busy rarely a weekend passes when he is not playing to several thousand clubbers, often with two gigs in one night. Gigs in Ibiza in 2008 with New City Sound raised Dan’s profile further, with media coverage from DV8 Magazine (www.dv8online.co.uk, November 08 Bristol edition).
What is remarkable about such glittering achievements is that Dan is still only 23. Without a shadow of a doubt his profile and career will continue to rise. Global recognition on the scene is not far away. His extensive music collection and incredible versatility means that he is at ease entertaining classy House crowds at New City Sound nights, or delivering the more euphoric sounds associated with Syndicate, through to the current trend in electronic sounds at nights such as Electroquisite. He can instinctively warm up a night, raise the roof with peak sets, or wind down with perfection at any bar or club. Whatever style or time of night, Dan is truly a master of all his trades, steadfastly and confidently refusing to be pigeon holed.
