Daughters of Terpsichore

And when Terpsichore, with iris-plume,
Bade o'er her lute her rosy fingers fly;
'T was pleasure all--the fawns in mingled choirs,
Glanced on the willing nymphs their wanton fires,
Joy shook his glittering pinions as he flew;
The shout of rapture and the song of bliss,
The sportive titter and the melting kiss,
All blended with the smile, that shone like early dew.
Terpsichore (pronounced terp-sick-a-ree) is the Muse of dance and drama; By the river-god, Achelous, she bore the Sirens.
Terpsichore's Daughters is a performance troupe featuring song, dance, comedy, tragedy, music, trapeze, contortion and other such varied acts roughly in the burlesque style.
Burlesque by definition is a form of comedy characterized by ridiculous exaggeration which often portrays a solemn subject in an undignified form. In the early days it was the F.U. to Bourgeois respectability and the waning of Victorian gender strictures. Victorian sensibilities made women's bodies the business of the ruling elite. Therefore, women dancing around in their underwear was revolutionary.
We try to adhere to a more traditional style burlesque, i.e. rather than coming out on stage and shaking our tits to tacky music, ripping our clothes off and leaving, we intricately choreograph dances that by nature of our movements may be sexy...though they tend to fall on the comic side of erotic (if there was one).
