2007 BLAST Battle Of The Bands Winners

Hi there! Hope you like the songs, don't hesitate in adding us and we'll get back to you :)

About BluJack-

Ryan Bennett and Tommy Vice formed the band in the 2nd half of 2006 through The Edge youth centre in Ballynahinch after playing in various cover bands, both together and separately. When they decided to write their own material, it was quickly evident that they weren't your usual teenage rock band. The collaboration of blues, funk, and jazz influences mixed with pop hooks and soul guitar playing formed the basis for BluJacks radio-friendly, dancible, upbeat tracks like Crazy and Did Your Mamma Never Tell You, while their slower songs such as On My Way Back Home and Unused, (with their classic heartfelt verse and big sing-a-long chorus formula,) were inspired by the likes of 3 Doors Down, Bon Jovi and Aerosmith. This gives BluJack an eclectic and well-rounded sound that you won't hear from many another young bands today.

The (re)birth of GrooveSoul...
Way back in the day, the first complete BluJack track was On My Way Back Home (an acoustic version is shown above...) and while it isn't a bad song, it didn't reflect the huge number of influences that Ryan and Tommy, the only members of the band at that point, were bringing to the table. During a jam session on Novenmber 2006, Ryan asked Tommy to listen to a groove riff that he'd been working on. Much head-nodding and foot tapping followed, and a week later that riff had grown into Crazy, the song that 6 months later carried BluJack to 1st place in the 2007 BLAST Battle of Bands.
Several other groove tracks followed, namely The Bosses Daughter, Hope You Miss Me and Did Your Mamma Never Tell You, and BluJack realised this was the direction their music was going to go. Finding it hard to classify the band to a genre, Tommy created the umberella of New BluesFunkJazzGroove, simply citing the bands numerous influences. Although descriptive, it was rather lacking in the catchyness department. When challenged to come up with a better genre name, Ryan simply replied "GrooveSoul." The groove riffs, the soul lyrics... with a name that's as catchy and snappy as their music, BluJack had their genre.
As Tommy once said- "I dont believe u can contain good music to one genre"
"Even the people who can't dance wanna feel like dancing, thats where groove comes in." -Steve Telehus-
