The Woodshed Musicians

The Woodshed Musicians are Frijo and Deepak.It all started nearly 6 years back when Frijo and Deepak started jamming at their music school (Chetana Music Academy) in Thrissur, Kerala after being drawn towards similar kinds of music. Dave Brubeck, Santana, Deep purple etc.,. were the early influences. Over the years both of them matured as musicians as their listening repertoire increased and when they started delving into new musical territories.Frijo who has been trained classically for nearly 11 years is a student of Fr. Thomas at the Chetana Music Academy. He started developing an interest in jazz and decided to pursue it seriously. Some of his main influences are Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Thelonious Monk, McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans, Jordan Rudess etc.,. One of the rising pianists in the area, he is known for his unique improvising and composing skills. Off late he has been experimenting a lot with Indian melodic and rhythmic concepts.Deepak has been playing drums for nearly 10 years. He was a student of the great drummer Joeboy T. Vincent for nearly 5 years. Recently he has been under the tutelage of one of India's finest drummers, Mr. Ranjit Barot. Science and Music has been his main interests ever since his 9th grade. Started listening to jazz nearly 8 years back and got completely immersed in that world. Some of his influences are Tony Williams, Jack DeJohnette, Vinnie Colaiuta, Coltrane, Miles, Steve Coleman etc.,.. Any music which is sincere and played from within the soul can be inspiring to him..The band is mainly about playing and composing and exploring the possibilties of a duo setting which is slightly uncommon in a jazz context. Drawing inspiration from all possible sources, they constantly try to improve their music. The band is making its mark in the local scene slowly and steadily. The band members also have a strict regime for personal practice as they believe that for overall improvement in the band's music, it is important to develop personally first.The First Step has been the band's first recording venture. Its not intended to be marketed commercially, but its more like a demo cd. All the compositions on the CD has been by Frijo and Deepak.
