Decibella has been obsessed with music from as far back as she can remember. After sneaking out to her first rave at 13, and experiencing underground music live, she fell in love with the atmostphere, the energy, the 'scene', the vibes - her love and passion for music increased.
"Music;, the ultimate drug, and i get high on it every day, im a total junkie, addicted deep in my soul! It envelopes my heart and makes my head feel all warm and fuzzy. Music is what makes me feel alive, what gets me through everyday – I am totally ruled by my feelings and emotions, im a very sensitive person – and that’s exactly what music is all about isn’t it…. feelings and emotions; which is why I think im so passionate about it - music really stirrs me up, i feel what i hear. I love a dolly mixture of genres – different genres use different sounds and provoke different feelings – which I think is key inspiration for any musicianâ€
She first jumped on the decks when she was jus 15, and learnt to mix with jungle/drum & bass, although she didn’t buy her own decks until 3 years ago, when she discovered dubstep.
“Dubstep has had a massive influence on me, I was getting very frustrated with drum and bass and it wasn’t moving me and exiting me like it used to. I was going through a tough period in my life as well and I felt very lost, musically and personally – dubstep found me at a crucial time, gave me a slap round the face and has taken my hand and lead me onto a new and very exiting path. It inspired me to buy my own decks because I was hearing wonderful tunes, beautiful and dirty tracks, amazing basses and melodies that I wanted to be able to mix, blend and manipulate – I was craving to get hands on properly, buying my own decks was the best decision I ever made and I’ve never looked back since. Although im now a total vinyl fanatic and have started collecting all sorts! I keep up to date with dubstep but also buy old jungle, reggae, acid house etc .. the list is endless!â€
Decibella first played at Platform 1 at Corsica studios where she had a b2b session with fellow female dubstep producer and DJ Subeena, she then landed herself a show on internet station Vertex. It was on Vertex she was approached by channel 4 and asked to participate in a new series of short documentaries called ‘Debutantes’, The purpose of the series was to encourage young people to peruse careers in creative industries. Each debutante was given a mentor and set a challenge – aimed to give each participant an insight into how much hard work and dedication working in theses industries really is. Each episode covered a particular industry – Radio DJ, Fashion Designer, Photographer, Rapper, and Film Producer. After interviews and castings Decibella was chosen.
“I felt so lucky, to have been given an opportunity like that, it felt so amazing to know that someone was interested in what I was about, it meant a hell of a lot, and although I’m a very confident outgoing person, as soon as music comes into the equation I doubt myself a lot, as I still have so much learn, to see, to achieve and after years upon years of listening and raving to some wonderful music, witnessing some great DJs, it can make one feel rather insignificant! Doing the show gave me a much needed confidence boostâ€
– Decibellas episode was focusing on radio DJ – You can see the episode here:

Meanwhile she has been a busy girl getting herself into the studio and onto the riddems!
“producing is something that was a natural progression from DJ’ing, there are certain vibes and influences that I want to capture and be able to incorporate in my DJ sets, certain styles of tunes that I endlessly search for, but I never find exactly what I’m after – so what better than to make it myself! I have been hitting the studio with Fiasco and we have been rolling out a few things, and it feels great to finally make something of all the ideas that have been buzzing around my brain for so long!â€
So 2008 is set to be a progressive year for Decibella, she is bursting with enthusiasm and is motivated solely by her love for music.
Working with a national radio station come the summer, producing her own tracks, and playing in more clubs - you should be seeing and hearing alot more of this lady this year.
