About Me

Rohan Drew first picked up the bass at the tender age of 13, after unsuccessfully trying to convince his mother to buy him a drumkit… Instead he acquired a defretted 4 string bass from a family friend. Heavily influenced by the funk-rock stylings of Les Claypool, Rohan quickly learned to slap, pop, mute as well as strum chords on the bass.By Age 16 Rohan was playing bass in the pub scene with funk band “Funk Rat Jones”, performing in popular Melbourne venues such as the Espy, Central Club & The Rochester Hotel including on the bill of the Melbourne Funk Festival. This early live experience exposed Rohan to some of Melbourne’s best funk & Jazz players, adding to his influences.Rohan has been playing live & in the studio ever since, collaborating in many line ups over the years, with styles ranging from funk & blues to grunge & heavy rock. Most recently with energetic funk rock 4 piece “The Upper Hand”. ‘The hand’ have played all over Melbourne & Victoria with many of Australia’s premier Hard Rock acts, releasing a debut Ep in 2005 & a live album in 2006. They plan to release a new live album in late ’07.Individually tailored Bass lessons and mentoring are now available through his new development Rhythm Communications, using unique progress tracking and goal setting methods to provide solid foundations for continual musical development.
