HALFWAY HOUSE EMCEES
White Shadow, Compound, and Swiss Precise all born and raised in Long Beach California, established themselves as pioneers within the local hip hop community. Rooted in the B Boy culture since the mid 80's Halfway House soon became notorious for their bombing skills. Graffiti writers known as KBH (Killen Babylon Hourly) well known for dominating flood controls, alleys, freeway signs, buses and bill boards. After a couple run ins with Jonny Law they focused on polishing their rhyming skills. Rocking backyard functions, jumping into cyphers whenever possible, Halfway House soon became one of Southern Cali's most wanted.
From illegal writings to piecing in legal yards, freelancing for major clothing companies, Halfway House Emcee's are ready to take over the rap game.
THE ARGYLE PIMPS
With a comical approach, and unconventional subject matter The Argyle Pimps brush against genius with their retro-lounge sound and a variety show style that is difficult to typify. More than just another indie-rap act, this oddball hip hop duet from Fresno, Ca. leave an impression on the crowd like old time entertainers, blending humor and flawless rhyme schemes into a thoroughly entertaining experience. Live in concert the stage personas of Boney Beezly and Cockamamie Jamie the white dean martin display a finesse that invokes the days of Perry Como and Dino, combined with a comedians sense of improvisation and timing, all bound together with the raw talent and energy of two young emcees with more sarcastic rap skill than they know what to do with. Oh, and EngleBurt handles most of the Maestro duties.
TRIPLE HELIX
Proclaiming their sound as "grown folks hip hop", Triple Helix is a group that aspires to do little more than present the core elements of hip hop music.
Hailing from Los Angeles, with roots from Compton to Moreno Valley, their musical background experience exceeds 30 years combined. Triple Helix brings to the table a rich tapestry of wisdom and personality, creating music that appeals to "the rest of us" that know life expands past the borders of materialism & glamour.
Epitome & Soda Pop
This chameleonic emcee/producer duo offers a unique versatility to anyone who’s ever had trouble identifying themselves with any single genre of hip-hop. Bouncing about between psychdelic bangers, synth romps, rock stompers, and golden era throwbacks, Epitome (pronounced Epp-Uh-Tome) discharges a Native Tongues infused dialogue over Soda Pop’s layered productions with a style oozing of wit and animated wordplay. And while Soda Pop’s schizophrenic shop floor of beats zig-zag from one sub-genre of hip-hop to the other, the pair’s debut record â€Live From the Jumpspot†delivers a string endearing joints one after the other to anyone with an ear for hip-hop adventurism.
DIATRIBE
Representing Chicago is the ambitious triumvirate known as Diatribe. Originating in the back of a high school english class in the late nineties, the group has evolved into a three-piece operation consisting of emcee/producer Epitome, emcee/manager J-Note, and producer/engineer Soda Pop. While the sound of their back catalogue touts a quirky, personalized interpretaion of golden era hip-hop (as evident on the group’s soon to be reissued â€Roaring 20s†record), the modern day Diatribe finds itself branching out into a number of fresh new directions both lyrically and production-wise. With a list of collaborators that includes such characters as Dres (of Black Sheep fame), JUICE (freestyle icon), and Kevin Coval (recurring Def Poetry guest), and with more on the horizon, heads should definitely keep on the lookout for the camp’s string of projects and side ventures slated for early ’08 releases.
If I had to describe The Tribe I would say theyre a trip back to hip hops roots - with todays relevance. And if you think they aint real mcs, test em - J.U.I.C.E
