FLASH is a sleaze-glam-metal band, formed in 2002 to bring back the glamorous spirit of the 80’s (which all the members of the band are fond of), when hard n’heavy music was on top. After several years of playing in different bands, improving their skills and attempting to find their own sound, guitarist Damien Thorn and bass player Alexander Zwerski left their band and Mikky Lovejoy joined them to create a band they’ve been dreaming of for years. Since the beginning, it was decided to avoid any public appearance, until the image of the band was completely elaborate. For the next few months of rehearsing and writing new material, the guys were also busy visiting stores and seamstresses, trying to create a visual image that would be exclusive and would still translate the 80’s sparkling atmosphere. Though it took some time and lot of money, the band came to it’s first show fully equipped with glittering jackets, knee-high platform boots, and make-up looking wild and ready to rock! Halloween was a good reason to play their first show. October 31, 2002, the band rocked the crowd in the Aquatoria club, Saint-Petersburg, at a party, where the band fit just like a glove. With this very first show, the band started it’s local club touring and over the next year it became quite well-known. Later, as FLASH recorded it’s seven-song demo, it would allow them to break through the local stage realms. In 2004 the band played a couple of gigs in Moscow, followed by several reviews and interviews for the Russian heavy music web resources. All-in-all, throughout it’s over four years’ history, the band has played over 50 gigs, both in Saint-Petersburg and outside it. The brightest events were: - VI International Biker Festival “Werwolf - 2002†(Olgino). - Supporting “witchâ€-metal band Shabash (Estonia). - Metal Attack Festival, with Russian hard n’heavy stars – Great Sorrow. - Supporting gothic-metal band Downfall (Finland). - Supporting hard n’heavy band Private Line (Finland). - Supporting cult punk n’roll band Hybrid Children (Finland). - Supporting rock n’roll band Spiha (Finland). - Supporting melodic-metal-goth band To/Die/For (Finland). Besides that, FLASH appeared in a film, in a Russian TV-series “National Security Agentâ€, shown on TV. On May 13, 2005, FLASH presented their limited edition promo-album “Hot’N’Wetâ€. Summer 2005 was commemorated by the number of appearances on big local festivals, which made the band known to a wider audience (“The Night Voyageâ€, - Annual rock-festival in Vyborg, 2005; Saint-Petersburg’s Annual beer-festival on Kirovsky arena, 2005, and some other smaller suburban fests). In autumn 2005, the band represented their hometown at the traditional festival “Saint-Petersburg days†in Turku (Finland), where played two gigs at “Palatsi Youth Centreâ€, on 8 and 10 of september. This event was observed by local press (“Turun Sanomatâ€, 2005, 34762 (248)). Besides that, the band almost got arrested by finnish police, just before leaving. Even though FLASH hasn’t proceeded to Russian “The Global Battle Of The Bands†final, the band confirmed it’s scandalous reputation and got positive reviews from some of members of jury and in various press.
