About Me
I am an All-American gal born in Chicago, Illinois but I have lived most of my teenage to adult life in Nashville, Tennessee and Clearwater, Florida. Florida is where I began my singing career, but the desire goes back much further.
The first time I heard the song “Vision of Love†by Mariah Carey it became my goal to give that same kind of love to people through MY voice as well.
After taking singing lessons to help my range and breathing techniques, I joined my first band in 1994 and played all around the Tampa, Clearwater, St. Pete area. We played a lot of rock music, anywhere from Stevie Nicks, Pretenders, to Bonnie Raitt. I also have a strong love of Soul, R&B, even Country music and enjoy performing those styles as well.
In 1995 I moved to Trier, Germany, with a plan to stay only for a year but that year turned into MANY more. Shortly after arriving in the country, I was at a show where the lead singer saw me singing in the audience and brought me to the stage to finish the song and asked me to sit-in for another. That was my foot in the door in the music business in Germany.
I formed my own band named ‘Mrs. Smith’, that performed a healthy dose of Rock/Soul/Funk with much success in my new home of Germany.
In 2000 I joined the casting for the German version of ‘American Idol†called ‘Popstars’â€. From over 5000 girls I made it to the last 10. It was televised for 15 weeks and I was in a good portion of the show and was present in Mallorca for the workshop choreographed by Detlef “D†Soost and was also a member of the girl group ‘No Angels’ put together by the production team from ‘Popstars’.
In 2002 I joined Dieter Bohlen and Bild Zeitung's casting for the Grand Prix Eurovision Contest. From the over 7000 singers I made it to the last 3.
I began building a very large repertoire of songs as well as a strong client/fan base by performing at many Galas, which are similar to Corporate performances in America. I worked with many different groups at this time and became adept at many styles of music, constantly working and learning.
At this time, I began hearing that I looked and sounded a great deal like Shania Twain, and, being a fan of her music, I began performing many of her songs in my set, which ultimately culminated in a job with “Stars In Concert†in Berlin impersonating Shania. This success led to a position performing as Frida in the ABBA tribute show the same production company put on in Athens, Greece in 2006-07. These positions offered me the opportunity to work with some of the best musical impersonators in the world and I truly enjoyed and learned from the experience.
During my time performing in Germany I was fortunate enough to work
in more than 60 cities all around Germany and in other countries such as Dubai, Portugal, Spain, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Switzerland and Greece and am very capable and professional at what I do.
Recently, I have moved back to Nashville, Tennessee with a strong desire to perform in the United States. I have already begun by doing studio demo work and scattered acoustic performances with my husband.
I am available for vocal work and anxious to do so!
Thanks for stopping by,
Steph
