No Pit, Just Bull.

About Me

My husband and I used to run a private Pit Bull rescue in South Carolina. Over the 4 years we ran it, we rescued over 22 dogs, rehabilitated them, trained them, and found them safe and loving homes. In 2006, my husbands job moved us to Ontario where Pit Bulls are illegal. We were down to 5 dogs, but were not able to bring a single one with us. Not even our 11 year old house dog, Homer. We were lucky to have a friend who offered to take them for us and he has continued our efforts. However, our hearts are in a million pieces to no longer be able to have our beloved dogs and rescue. The reason for this is BSL - Breed Specific Legislation. The government of Ontario has banned the Pit Bull breed and any dog resembling a Pit Bull in any way. This began in 2005 and many dogs have been killed since then. Help us fight Breed Specific Legislation in the USA AND CANADA!! Check out our colorful designs featuring our rescued dogs! http://www.cafepress.com/nopitjustbull
Shortly after we began our rescue, I realized we would need some sort of financial assistance in order to ensure we could provide proper care and vet services to all the dogs we rescued and worked with. I stumbled across Cafepress and decided to put my creativity to work. Soon, No Pit, Just Bull. was born. I use my own photographs of our dogs to create designs for Pit Bull supporters and lovers of all kinds. My efforts have helped us raise enough (not a lot, but enough) money to provide food, supplies, and vet services for our dogs every month!
After spending so much quality time with these incredible dogs, I have become an advocate in ending breed specific legislation and for helping this breed break the bad rap it has horribly obtained. We were lucky to obtain papers on some of our dogs (one was the mother of 8 gorgeous puppies) and were therefor able to participate in "dog" shows through local Pit Bull clubs. These shows were created by the ABDA to demonstrate what Pit Bulls can do that don't include fighting such as weight pull and confirmation. The local club we had the most participation in was South Carolina's own Palmetto State American Pit Bull Terrier Club (www.angelfire.com/sc/palmettopitbullclub/)
There are a lot of misconceptions about Pit Bulls. The biggest one is that they are people biters. This is totally and completely untrue! The only reasons for a Pit Bull to bite a human is if it is defending itself from abuse of some kind or if it has been trained to do so by a poorly educated owner. It is my goal with this site, and my cafepress store, to educate the world about Pit Bulls, teach responsible ownership, and help put an end to BSL (breed specific legislation). After all, we should be punishing the deed, not the breed! We have been very lucky in 2008 to be able to help several Pit Bull owners. We've shared some of our stories with the general public by way of our blog. We encourage everyone to take some time to read our blogs as they are FULL of lots of useful information to anyone at all about the American Pit Bull Terrier breed. We will continue to post informational blogs with many links to educational, informative and helpful websites incluing rescue organizations. Our MySpace page is viewable by the public, and we hope you will pass us on to your friends. The more people we reach, the wider spread the education becomes, and hopefully we will soon see an end to BSL of this and all other dog breeds. Education is key!
