SIXGUN actually came about by the splitting of another band. It goes all the way back to New Years eve of 2001. David Jones was then the lead guitarist of a well known band called 8 Second Ride. David had played with that band from the beginning and was there through all the Nashville act opening gigs. He shared the stage with some of the greats in country and southern rock music from Keith Urban to The Marshall Tucker Band.
But on New Years Eve 2001, it all came to a screaching halt. It was in the air that 8 Second Ride was breaking up because of conflict of interests. At that point, David stepped out.
That's when the idea for SIXGUN started in motion. David put together a group of guys that he just knew was going to put him on top. He offered his best friend in the world, his cousin, Larry Davis the job as soundman. The name then was David Jones & SIXGUN. He had stars in his eyes. Those stars soon faded. As time went on, the guys started looking other bands to play with. Band members came and went for almost six years.
In July of 2007, things were looking up. The band consisted of David Jones on lead vocals, lead guitar, and piano, Billy East on bass, Bradley Hudson on steel guitar, guitar, banjo, and fiddle, and Danny Croom on drums. Things were going well as they discovered a singer/guitar player named Duane Haddock. Duane came in, and not 2 weeks later, Danny, Bradley, and Billy left the band. Things didn't look so good anymore.
David was determined to keep moving forward. They played with fill-in guys for a while just to get through the shows. Then in December it all came together. Duane had introduced an amazing keyboard player named Scotty Hemenway into the band back in October. David offered the original drummer from 8 Second Ride, Mark Baker, the job as their official time keeper. And they picked up a solid bass player in Joe Yates from BackDraft where he was running sound. Things were good again.
But, as before, it didn't last long. On January 5, 2008, Duane left SIXGUN to front another band. Duane is a good guy and we wish him well. David called in Jesse Dale to help out for a while. Jesse was forced to make a move so Les Keel came in on August 1st, and he has been with the guys ever since. Les is one of the founding members of SIXGUN. He was with David in the beginning. Sadly Scotty pursued another interest on November 14th, 2008. The guys hated to see him go. But he may pop up from time to time and play with the guys if he is available. Larry left the band in December of 2009 to concentrate on his family and career, he will be missed greatly.
SIXGUN offers you a diverse show playing everything from George Jones to Metallica.
