Megan is back in Buffalo after just finishing up an international music tour for the debut of her independently produced album "Megan Callahan-Since the Fire." She and percussionist Avi Altman, played at legendary venues like the Roisin Dubh (Galway), Bruxelle's (Dublin), Sandy Bell's (Edinburgh), The Dublin Castle (London), Bull and Gate (London) as well as The Hideout (Paris) and Ma Nolan's (Nice.) She spent the earlier part of the summer in Montpelier, Vermont working with Lost Nation Theater and playing shows, as well as preparing for the release of "Since the Fire" which came out in mid-August. She is thrilled to be back in Buffalo and is looking forward to the US release of the album, and playing regional and national shows. She is grateful to have had the honor of playing with the Genuflektors, Mary Ramsey (of John and Mary and the 10,000 Maniacs), Andrew Moroze, Michael DiSantos, Tim Baldwin, Bobby Kane, Todd Benzin (of the Skiffle Minstrels), Jeremey Wall (of Spyro Gyra) and many others. Her wandering spirit began in New Jersey, but has also lived in Detroit, Buffalo and Chinatown and has traveled to Russia, the UK, France, Italy, San Francisco, the Northwest, Hawaii... a hidden desire to be an ethnomusicologist because of her "voracious blackhole of an appetite for music," she loves to create or partake in the art of music, listen to others, and inspire those who think they can't to try their hand as well. Her original roots are in folk and folk rock, but in recent years jazz and blues have found their way into the mix and she is excited to explore more electro-acoustic possibilities and multi-medium collaboration. Constantly striving for deep honesty, truth, bravery and vulnerability in her work, she searches for new forms and sounds, and hopes above all else, to simply be present and open to what is possible.
