About Me
Steve Pandis has been surrounded by music his entire life. From the time he was given a trumpet at the age of seven, to his present career as a freelance bassist and vocalist in Los Angeles, he has been a devoted student of music. He is a graduate of the Grove School of Music, and holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California.Steve has studied bass with Darryl Jones, Alphonso Johnson, Joel Di Bartolo (of the Doc Severensen Tonight Show band), John Clayton, and others. As a vocalist, he studied with Carmen Bradford of the Count Basie Orchestra. Gary Foster, Bobby Bradford, Ndugu Chancler and Shelly Berg also number amongst his world-class musical mentors.While at USC, he auditioned for the role of Johnny Athenakis in the Christopher Guest film, "A Mighty Wind." He got the part, and subsequently joined the cast of the film as a featured player. After playing on the film's soundtrack album as a member of the New Main Street Singers, he performed on two national tours with the cast as well. He has also appeared in commercials for Pepsi, and videos in MTV rotation.As a performer, Steve has shared stages with a diverse array of artists, including Fela Kuti, Marty Stuart, Chayenne, Patrice Rushen, The Bangles, Robben Ford, Junior Wells, Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones), Senegal's Orchestra Baobob (in Moscow, no less!), and countless others. He also spent two years touring the globe with Neo-Swing pioneers The Royal Crown Revue. The list of cities he has performed in worldwide include Madrid, Sydney, Tokyo, Athens, London, Hong Kong, Dublin, Edinburgh, Normandy, Milan, and many more.Currently, Steve is available for hire as a bassist in the Los Angeles area, and for domestic and international touring. He performs on Fender and Sadowsky electric basses, and is an endorsee of King Doublebasses.
