Black and white photography hooked me at the age of seventeen in the late eighties. I then started as a teenager with compact cameras before using my father's reflex at eighteen. He later offered me my first proper camera he bought at a carboot sale in our hometown, an old Canon EFX from the late sixties-early seventies which I had trustfully used (I still do) until I switched to a DSLR camera in 2006.
As a self-taught photographer, photography has always been a passion since the late eighties (taking pictures, seeing other photgraphers’ work at exhibitions or in specialized magazines). For some twenty years, I have been making my own « photographic cuisine » never thinking of technical performances. Only feelings prevail.
My photographs mirror my own feelings and my own monochrome field of vision. In my view, colour photographs reflect our Common World too much and do not stimulate Man’s imaginary part of the brain.
Shooting urban landscapes, derelict places, or to cut a long story short, any place Man seems to have deserted thereafter – in « dull » seasons : hence the complete disappearance of people in my shots. Mundane everyday, plain life as it is and its common people are no source of inspiration to me as they convey no overwhelming imaginary dimension which, I think, is necessary to create to outpass reality.
For that’s where I see Man standing – behind the camera lens and behind the shots, not in/side but out/side. Emotions overcome bodies.
