If growing up means you can't make pee-pee jokes, I dont' want any part of it

About Me

First off, since everyone loves pictures, I try to keep a documentation of the latest antics up here: http://www.isdn.net/josh/gallery
Check out the Nashville Swing Scene at Swing Dance Nashville
Now for the boring stuff. I consider myself very laid back, easy going....that is until I start playing cards or get put in a "coach" role :)
I love hanging out with friends regardless of the setting. You can often find me at the House of Burt just sitting around enjoying the company of my fabulous housemates and whoever else might be stopping by for the evening/week/month. This is best supplemented with a frothy beverage, which I will devote an entire paragraph to in a moment.
I'm not particularly into sports in the traditional sense; however I do love dancing. Lindy Hop has been a passion of mine for a little over 2 years now, although Balboa is continually and rapidly expanding it's place in my heart. I'm into partner dancing of any sorts, I'm just most familiar with the swing genre including ECS, Lindy, Charleston, Balboa, and of course Lindy's dirty cousin: Blues. Argentine Tango has piqued my interest a great deal, and I hope to delve into that more next year. Salsa can be fun, but I haven't had a tremendous amout of experience in that. I'm totally open to learning new types of dancing, I find that each one has it's own individuality that makes it unique, while at the same time retaining the basics of partner dancing which make them, at least to some degree, a bit interchangeable. I put up a website a while back that I'm trying to keep updated with all the local dance events and it's at www.swingdancenashville.com We've got a forum on there too, so stop by and introduce yourself!
Good beer is another strong passion of mine. Current favorites are Yazoo's ESB and Bosco's Special Lager. I generally do not condone the drinking of domestic brews (other than those that come from microbreweries) with a few exceptions. Store bought favorites include New Castle, Negra Modelo, Dos Equis, Hollande, and Sam Adams (a domestic exception) to name a few. Recently, however, I haven't been purchasing beer at the store because I'm currently drinking a brew of my own concoction made in my apprenticeship under Steve Scoville, a nationally ranked beer judge, and one of the top in TN. The Flying Saucer, one of the coolest places around, and the Beer Sellar are a couple of great places to go to try some more exotic brews, and places that I would be much poorer were I to frequent them. I, however, prefer to get most of my brews from the Yazoo brewery or from the Bosco's brewery. There's just something about a microbrewed beer that sets it apart. As the sign hanging in the Yazoo brewery reminds us: "Life's too short to drink cheap beer". I'm a proud mug-toting member of Bosco's mug club, and I've already more than paid for the cost of the membership within the first month of savings. Ah, good times.
I enjoy foods of all different ethnicities. I eat Thai, Japanese, Mexican, Chinese, Greek, Indian, and American all fairly regularly. My favorite food would have to be Thai curry right now. There are few things better in this world than dishes made with coconut milk.
I'm a member of Crosspoint Community church, which I am thoroughly excited about. It's taken several years, but I've finally found a church that I really like and feel good about being a part of. Every other month I work with the 3 & 4 year olds on Sunday mornings, which is great b/c I get to play with play dough and jump around and wrestle......ah to be a kid again. It's wonderful to be able to leave behind my "adult" life, even if it's only for a hour a week, and return to a carefree, presureless time in my life. I'm also part of a community group that will be going through "Irresistible Revolution" by Shane Claiborne which I am very very excited about, mostly because we're only going to be spending a portion of the time talking about the material and using the other to actualy start living it out together.
Speaking of living together, I'm a part of an intentional Christina community living in north Nashville. One family just left for Iowa so now it's 3 single guys and family with a newborn. It's an amazing experience that I'm growing to love even more every day. I'm convinced this setup is much more similar to the way the early Christians communed and it has been and will continue to be a catylyst in my walk.
That's about it, I'm pretty easily entertained and amused. If you come and hang out and I can promise there will be laughing. Whether you're involved in the laughing will be entirely up to you ;)

My Interests

Intentional community Food redemption Working the system Beer: Making, Drinking, Discussing Partner Dancing, in particular Swing, Lindy, Balboa, Charleston, Blues, and Argentine Tango Your mom

I'd like to meet:

"I wanted to meet that captain.....and get sexy with him.....or whatever he said"
-Meatwad (ATHF)
Ok, that being said, I'd like to meet the person that will pay me a 6 digit salary to travel about the world and experience whatever it is I feel I need to do that day. If you know that person, please send them to my page. Thanks.

Music:

I'm pretty open to most types of music, but I have a very low tolerance for country. For you Nashvillians who know what Lighning 100 is, that's what my radio is usually tuned to. I mostly listen to rock, whether it be progressive, alternative, punk, or soft. Jazz is deeply rooted from my jazz band experiences and now more extensively from dancing. Some artists that immediately come to mind are James Taylor, Jimmy Eat World, Count Basie, Jack Johnson, Nickleback, Nora Jones, Tammy Rochelle , All American Rejects, Diana Krall, Counting Crows, Jamie Cullum.....just to name a very small few.

Movies:

Comedy - The Grail
Action - Drama - Memento
Fantasy - The Neverending Story
Cartoon - Aladdin
General favorite - Serenity
Favorite genres would have to be action, dramas, and sci-fi's

Television:

Generally the only TV I watch is on DVD. Recently got hooked on Lost. Firefly is another favorite.

Books:

Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind;
Harry Potter
Anything by Michael Crichton
Irrestible Revolution by Shane Clairborne
Like a Mighty Wind by Mel Tari

Heroes:

Ordinary people doing ordinary things with extraordinary motives.

DC Trip

My flight to DC was pretty uneventful, other than one of the roughest landings I've ever experienced while flying. But uneventful is good in a flight, so no complaints there. I read some and got som...

New Blog site

So, I've become frustrated enough with the instability of Myspace and the unavilability of it to non-Myspacers that I've moved my blogging to a different place.  I've taken the road of conformity...

I had a vivid dream last night

Last night I had one of the more vivid and memorably long dreams I've had in a while.  I'm going to try to get as much of it down as possible, as it was really quite interesting.  There were...
