THE CARLA TATUM BAND (CTB)

About Me

I was born Carla Gail Padgett August 8, 1967 in a small community in Georgia called Tate. My family resided in neighboring Ball Ground until I was eleven years old. In December 1978 Dad and Mama purchased a house in Marble Hill where daddy grew up. We were a lot closer to my grandma and our church. Being the youngest of six children and a Baptist preacher’s daughter, I had a very loving and religious childhood. I was also spoiled rotten by my older sister and four older brothers. My entire family was musically inclined. My mother and daddy had beautiful voices. Some of us could also play various musical instruments. Life without music was unorthodox. All of us at one point or another sang in church. It all began with my daddy and my sister, then daddy and my sister and my brothers, my mother and then me. Gospel music was a very heavy influence in my talent, as well as my life. I was fortunate enough to meet and sing as a guest with some very wonderful people who went on to make gospel music their life’s work. I, on the other hand, turned to country. Even though mom and dad had a strong love and collection of gospel music, they had quite the collection of country as well.Mama loved her Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette and daddy loved his George Jones and Johnny Cash. That’s just barely scratching the surface of country artists that I grew up listening to. The real transition from gospel to country occurred in my early twenties. While trying to find a band I discovered this incredible musician who had also played music most of his life. He knew a whole lot more about the business side of things due to playing in several bands. He had also toured and worked with some very prominent people in Nashville. Danny Tatum became my best friend, writing partner and husband. Between the two of us we have written and have been recording a full length CD. We recorded our first original single entitled " If Only" at Angello’s Sound Studio in Nashville Tennessee with some wonderful musicians. We have played at the Nashville International Airport, had a writing contract with BMI Nashville, and we have played various fairs, festivals and clubs all over Georgia. We now have the Carla Tatum Band ,which consist of five members that are very eager and ready to share our music with as many people as we can all over this wonderful country of ours.

Influences:

There are so many influences that have inspired me down through the years. My personal influences, first and foremost , God, my wonderful parents who had an undying love for their children as much as each other, and my wonderful husband Danny for being my teacher, partner, and friend. Musical influences, Wynnona was, and still is, a huge influence, Patty Loveless, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Patsy Cline goes without even saying, as well as Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, the list goes on and on! The newer, younger artists that are coming out are great as well. There's so much talent that it's so hard to pick specific influences. I just love them all!!! I also have a very special influence and his name is James. He is a little boy who has strength beyond all imagination. He is battling Childhood Leukemia and needs our support. James and his daddy wants him to have one million friends on myspace. Please show your love by adding him and check out his story. Be prepared to be shocked and amazed by this beautiful and amazing young man. "
