MARCELO COSTA
Marcelo Costa has been one of Brazilian’s greatest drummer and percussionist since 1974 when he started his career as a member of a group called “A Barca do Sol” at the early age of 14, with which he recorded 3 albums.
The group splitted in 1981, and Marcelo took part in concerts and recordings of many important Brazilian artists such as Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Zizi Possi, Egberto Gismonti, Lulu Santos, Marisa Monte, Adriana Calcanhoto, among others. He toured the USA, Europe and South America and performed at TV shows and participated in Brazilian movies soundtracks.
In 1995 he toured in Japan with Ryuichi Sakamoto, promoting the release of the album “Smooth”.
Marcelo performed as a producer on the soundtrack of the “Balé do Teatro Castro Alves”, scored by Caetano Veloso. He also produced the “Boca Livre e 14 Bis ao vivo” CD and songs for Italian singer Patty Pravo’s CD.
He worked as the assistant producer of the soundtrack of the movie “Tieta” directed by Cacá Diegues with songs by Caetano Veloso.
In 2002 and 2003 he played on the American and European tour for the worldwide release of the CD “Casa” with Jaques and Paula Morelembaum and japanese artist Ryiuichi Sakamoto. During that time he also performed with Adriana Calcanhoto, on the “Marítimo” tour, and with Maria Bethânia on the “A força que nunca seca” tour, during which they recorded a live album. He also played with Marisa Monte on the release tour of the “Memórias, Cronicas e declarações de amor” tour in Europe, USA and Brazil.
Back in Brazil, in 2004, he recorder two CDs with Maria Bethânia: “Brasileirinho” and “Que falta você me faz”, having performed in both world tours. He also performed as a drummer with Ana Carolina during the “Estampado” tour. He worked as Adriana Maciel’s musical director on the “Poeira Leve” show.
In 2005 he played on the “Que falta você me faz” Europe, Brazil and USA tour, with Maria Bethânia. He produced the Arranco de Varsóvia’s “Na cadência do samba” CD, and italian singer Sandy Muller’s CD. He recorded as a drummer and percussionist with Zeca Baleiro, Maria Bethânia, Roberta Sá and Lobão. He also recorded Marisa Monte’s and Francis Hime’s albums to be released in 2006. He featured in Ana Carolina’s “Estampado” DVD and Maria Bethânia’s "Tempo tempo tempo" DVD.
During 2005 he also travelled through Europe, South America and Brazil with the “Jaques Morelembaum Cello Samba Trio”.
He is already been hired to play the 2006 / 2007 Marisa Monte Tour, to USA, Europe and South America. Marisa Monte is one of the greatest and best selling artists in Brazil
