Behrang Miri adds a unique sound to the Swedish hip hop scene. His contribution not only leads hiphop in a new direction but also gives world music new life and creates that musical balance which reaches a broader audience in the new multicultural Sweden.
The music on his coming album The book about our life is soulful, aware, descriptive, inspiring, political and above all innovative. His music is a mix of the rich musical and rhythmic heritage of the Middle East (Arab, Persian, Turkish, Kurdish etc.) and the urban rhythms that hip hop has to offer. The music is world music at its best and the catchy beat just makes you want to dance. Folk music and pop music meet texts and choruses in Arabic, Persian, English and Swedish that will make anyone open their ears, listen and move!
Behrang Miri is originally from Iran and came to Sweden as a political refugee during the late 1980s. He now lives in the city of Malmö, Sweden, where he have become a huge local profile. At the age of 24, Behrang Miri is already an established rapper, actor, lecturer, writer and host as well as a teacher and coordinator of the youth movement “RGRA – The Voice and Face of the Street†in Malmö.
Lately, Behrang Miri got a lot of media exposure on national TV, public radio och various newspapers because of his music and his devoted work for social change.
Behrang Miri has gathered vast experience of being on stage, and with his talent and great charisma he has developed a rare ability to capture his audience. He has performed at a large number of festivals and other events in Sweden and has always gotten good reviews, both from the media and from his audience. Behrang Miri has also performed in Palestine, South Africa, Lebanon and Brazil. He is backed up by a live band of professional musicians on the saxophone, oud, darbouka, violin and nai, and with his happy and danceable music, Behrang Miri is recognized as a live act that always rocks.
Behrang Miri has performed with musicians such as Ale Möller Band, Balkan Beatbox, DAM, Dogge Doggelito from Latin Kings and Che Sudaka. In 2007 he was in a music documentary together with the Israeli/American group Balkan Beatbox and various Palestinian hip hop and folk musicians. He also had a leading role in a documentary produced by Al-Jazeera International.
