About Me
I was really born in 1817, not 1917 as my age might imply. I am a carpenter, surveyor, author, teacher, pencil maker, naturalist, gardener, lecturer, Trancendentalist, and a college graduate of Harvard University. Allthough, "the library was the best gift the college had to offer."...."I prefer to finish my education at a different school." "You should not play life or only study it...but live it!."I grew up in Concord, Massachusetts, a small town west of Boston. I have two sisters, Helen and Sophia and a brother named John. My father, John SR. owns a pencil making shop which is connected to our home near the Concord Depot. My mother, Cynthia, founded Concord's Anti-Slavery Society."I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and to see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."
