Influences: Lou Rawls, Billy Joel, Earth Wind & Fire, and (*can't believe I'm actually typing this out*) Barry Manilow. My parents would cycle through these four artists every time we were in the car as a family. Both my folks were musicians my mother taught piano and my father was in a drum & bugel corps. I guess it could be genetic, but I did have to learn the hard way... listening to Manilow and what not.

After I was able to choose my own music, I had my era of ROCK influences, Van Halen, Foreigner, Def Leppard, Ozzy. This was right around the birth of MTV, which had a major effect on the kids back then. "Did you see that video.." was a very popular way to start a conversation.

Then it was the 80's New Wave stuff, INXS, Depeche Mode, New Order, Yaz, the Smiths, the Cure. High school. What a blur.

In college, REM, Zappa, the Descendants, the Police, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, and all that goes with that stuff...

After college, Phish, Radiators, Wide Spread Panic, Maceo Parker, Leftover Salmon, I learned about and gained an appreciation for Jam-Band ideology, the art of the improv, and how to listen and play at the same time.

Then I landed in Austin and found a very cool local talent pool. Local artists that have impressed me include Monte Montgomery, Bob Schneider, Matt Powell, and the late great Groovy Buddha

There have also been several people in my life that have altered the course of my existance ...

Tony Domino got me started down the road to becoming a musician by buying me my first guitar. Frank Guntly, Ron Krause, & Fred Sturm for being inspirational music teachers in grade school, high school, and college respectfully. Tim Snead got me out of Wisconsin and into Colorado, Scott Kabel from the band Little Hercules whom I moved to California with, got me on the way to Texas, Deanne who convinced me that Austin was the place for me, Denny & Chrissy who supported my musical endeavors going as far back as I can remember. And finally Lindsey, River, & Ireland, who give me a measure of life I can't even put into words ... They are my world, my life, my everything.

Sounds Like: Music.... it resembles music.

Rocking the Rock Band

I've been playing in bands for more than 20 years, and I've been playing video games for 30 years.  Maybe that's why I dig Rock Band by Harmonix.    When Guitar Hero first hit the scen...
