REZ BLUEZ TV wins an Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Award for
‘Best Television Program Promoting Aboriginal Music’
(North Vancouver, B.C.) The producers of the second season of Rez Bluez TV, Elaine Bomberry, Aaron Goldman and Shawn Henry, are pleased to announce that their television program won an Aboriginal Peoples Music Choice Award (APMCA) for ‘Best Television Program Promoting Aboriginal Music’ on Thursday, November 6th, at Manito Ahbee Festival, held at the McPhillips Street Station Casino in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Rez Bluez TV is the only show of its kind in the world that showcases Native blues musicians and comedians from all over Turtle Island. We want to say Chi-miigwetch, Nia:weh, Big Thanks to all our fabulous musicians, crazy comedians, wonderful crew, the broadcasters and sponsors and everyone who voted on-line and watched our show on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network during our second season. Rez Bluez 2 was shot over one week in March 2007, at the Studio Theatre in Hamilton Place, Hamilton, Ontario. Over seven days, ninety-three musicians and comedians were brought in from every corner of Turtle Island to be part of our second season.
We also want to send our Special Thanks to our super talented Native blues musicians and comedians who gave us their best, you are all so amazing and so inspiring!! Elaine Bomberry was also one of the co-hosts with Don Kelly for the First Night Awards, the pre-show awards of the APCMA’s, on Thursday, November 6th, and presented ‘Best Blues’ recording on the televised show on Friday, November 7th to J.C. Campbell.
Rez Bluez TV is also nominated for a Canadian Aboriginal Music Award in the same category, which will be held at the Canadian Aboriginal Festival on Friday, November 28th, 2008, in Toronto, Ontario.

REZ BLUEZ SEASON II - SERIES DESCRIPTION
The Native heart beat of the blues will ring true one more time on the second season of Rez Bluez. After successful broadcasts on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network and SUN-TV, Rez Bluez returns to both networks this Fall for a second season on Saturday, March 8, 2008. Still the only show of its kind in the world that features solely Native blues and comedy, Rez Bluez II was shot entirely in high definition…so the blues will fill your living room more than ever! The show will air over the next 13 weeks every Saturday night at 7 pm ET/PT on APTN, so mark this on your calendars!
This season features twenty-six (26) Aboriginal blues acts, for a total of 93 musicians, and 4 comedians, who also do double duty as hosts, and Michaela Washburn returns to host 6 shows. We continue to showcase the best in Aboriginal blues in Rez Bluez II. We have some musicians returning from last season including Derek Miller, The Pappy Johns Band, Harrison Kennedy, Wes Mackey, and Murray Porter to name a few of our returning guest musicians.
We’re also taking great pleasure in introducing some talent new to Rez Bluez TV, including Keith Secola, Jared Sowen, Dalannah Bowen, The Plateros, Martha Redbone, Helen Duguay, Shakti Hayes, Art Napoleon, and Jason Burnstick to name a few of the fabulous musicians who will grace your t.v. screens this coming season.

COMEDIAN BIOS:
MICHAELA WASHBURN
Our host for 6 of the 13 shows is Actor/Comedian Michaela Washburn, who is Metis from Leduc, Alberta. A featured comedian and host from last season of Rez Bluez, Michaela steps up solely as host for 6 shows. She’s an accomplished Actor, having performed in theatre with VideoCabaret, De-Ba-Jeh-Mu-Jig Theatre Group, and with Native Earth Performing Arts in their production of ..Unnatural and Accidental Women’. She is also a Comedian with training through the Second City Program, and studied Pochinko style clown with John Turner of the world-renowned clown duo ..Mump and Smoot’, and was a member of ..Tonto’s Nephews’, an Aboriginal improv comedy troupe. Michaela was also a Therapeutic Clown Practitioner at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children.
DREW LACAPA
The gifted comedian Drew Lacapa is from the Apache, Hopi and Tewa Nations in Fort Apache, Arizona, Drew Lacapa has been a favourite in Indian Country state-side for years. He’ll be doing double-duty as both Comedian and Host of a couple of shows. This is his Canadian television debut as a Host of Rez Bluez II. Drew’s also appeared in a fitness video with Elaine Miles (formerly of Northern Exposure) called ..Rez Robics’. Some of Drew’s comedic influences include Minnie Pearl, Red Skelton, Carol Burnett, John Belushi and John Candy. He also has a show that tours throughout the southwest U.S. called Drewfest.

SKEENA REECE
The multi-talented Skeena Reece wears many artistic hats, and is an accomplished multi-media artist, singer/songwriter and comedian. She’s performed on the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards doing her own comedy. She’s also worked with many Aboriginal artists including Ostwelve, Kinnie Starr, Daybi, Sandy Scofield and Joy Harjo to name a few accomplished artists she’s worked with. Skeena has also brought her talents to the Vancouver Island Music Festival and the Vancouver Folk Festival.

GERRY ..THE BIG BEAR’ BARRETT
Gerry is Ojibway from Saugeen First Nation in Ontario, who is now based in Winnipeg. An honour graduate from the Niagara College of Applied Arts and Technology in radio/televison/film program, Gerry is now the Morning Host on NCI-FM in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He’s appeared on CBC-TV’s ..Welcome to Turtle Island’, and was a featured comedian on last seasons Rez Bluez show. As an actor, he’s appeared in ..Cowboys and Indians’, ..The Killing of J.J. Harper’, and has loan his voice to the children’s program ..Tipi Tales’.

Show Description:
Rez Bluez TV is the first show of its kind anywhere on television that showcases solely Native blues talent and comedy. Native folks have a connection to the blues that comes from an inherent connection to the drum. The drumbeat is the heartbeat of Mother Earth, and this is the same heartbeat that is felt in the blues. Today’s Native blues musicians’ play with such intensity and passion, that you know it comes from a soulful place. Withour fellow African-Canadian blues musicians, and Native musicians from all over Canada, they’re ready to take their blues to the world. This is our own little Motown…the Rez Bluez version. One of our featured musicians, Harrison Kennedy was part of the original Motown sound, back in the day.
Rez Bluez TV features original Aboriginal blues. Some of the talented musicians who are part of the series include: Jani Lauzon, The Pappy Johns Band with Murray Porter, Derek Miller, George Leach, Star Nayea, Harrison Kennedy, The Breeze, Texas Meltdown, The Wolf Pack, Billy Joe Green, and Digging Roots, to name a few of the many talented Native blues musicians who are showcased over the 13 shows.
To offset our blues a bit, we will also feature the hilarious comedic talent of Charlie Hill, Michaela Washburn, Andre Morriseau, Gerry ..The Big Bear’ Barrett, and Moccasin Joe.
