Janice Robinson

About Me

Janice Robinson is a triple threat - a rare breed of singer and songwriter and performer whose music resonates with a life full of light and dark, joy and sorrow, struggle and success.
Janice's story begins in New Jersey, at age 5 singing at her Baptist minister father's side where she gained the Gospel roots that would stay with her throughout her career. Before she even turned 19 she toured with New Kids on the Block and SNAP and even starred in several off Broadway shows while she simultaneously earned her BFA from Adelphi University.
After graduating, she moved to Italy landing work with several top Italian producers and penning the 1 smash "Dreamer" for the hit pop/dance band Livin Joy. The song went to 1 in 26 countries.
Having conquered Europe, Janice returned to her roots in New York City where she worked with Taylor Dane ("When Ever You Fall"), Wyclef Jean (who cowrote Tevin Cambell's "Never Again" with Janice), Junior Vasquez (remixed "Dreamer"), David Morales ("Earth Beat"), Soul Solution, Teddy Kumpel, Brinsley Evans and Mark Batson. This led to her discovery by A&R man Larry Rudolph, EMI publisher Evan Lamberg and Queen Latifah, who were all instrumental in her signing to Phil Quatarero at Ghetto Works/Warner Brothers Records.
She immediately started working with Allen Sides, Ry Cooder, Waddy Waddy Wachtel, Steve Feronni, Jim Keltner, Siedah Garret & Richard Page on her album The Color Within Me. The LP caught Tina Turner's ear and landed Janice the opening slot on Tina's 2000 Farewell Tour. After 50 cities and giving the tour her all, Janice decided to take some of Tina's advice and focus on her private life. She moved to Paris, had a daughter, Kura Umani Robinson, in 2002 and took a short hiatus from the industry. In the meantime, she had cuts with artists as diverse as Kristine W ("Let Love Reign"), Abigail ("Let The Joy Rise") and Anggun.
2004 saw Janice return to her first love of writing songs of hope and love that move the universe. She wrote Top 10 hit "Risin" for Belgium Pop Idol winner, Natalia; has two singles "If I Close My Eyes" and "On My Own" on the new Reina album; and is currently working with Lee Ryan from the boy band BLU; as well as Ron Amen Ra (Bad Boy Entertainment), Lawrence, Timo Maas, Jack D Elliot, Tony Bruno, Ced Solo, Camus Celli, The Arkitects & Enrico Cremones.
In Janice's own words, she is an artist, mother and humanitarian who has spent her life in the arts to help give the world some music for the soul...
