About Me

____________________________________________________________ __________________ As the 1994 school year approached, seven friends who were all active in the hardcore scene were all looking for a place to reside. Upon discussion, they all decided to try to move in together. The location that was chosen was an old dental fraternity house on Neil Avenue, near the Ohio State University. This house was old and dilapidated, but the rent was cheap and it had a very large living/dining room. When the house was newly moved into, a housewarming party was planned, featuring live bands. This party took place and was a great success. Slowly but surely, more and more bands started playing the house. Eventually, as unplanned as it was, The Neilhouse, as it would affectionately come to be known, became the go to place for all ages hardcore/punk rock shows. Touring bands, local bands, bands long forgotten, and bands still revered today played their hearts out on it's battered hardwood floors. The Neilhouse lasted with the original residents (with a few replacements) for two years, after which, more kids moved in and continued to book shows for about another year. The house had actually had a few hardcore kids living in it before the Neilhouse days, and was the location of an Undertow/Sparkmarker show in 1992, which really set the idea of moving into it in motion. This house became an important piece of hardcore history and was the central location for a growth spurt that saw a scene grow exponentially. If you played there, hung out there, saw bands there, wished you could go, lived there or left a little piece of yourself there...this page is for you.
Newspaper Article on The Neilhouse
There is a myspace group called *neilhouse days, which is for this house and other earlier columbus hardcore/indie stuff. Members are encouraged to upload any images or flyers that they might have. The group only allows 50 photos and we filled it up, so I took some down and relocated them to another spot they can be viewed. If you have anything you'd like to share relating to the house, music, people or just anything that might be of interest... post it in the photos section of the group.

I'd like to meet:

____________________________________________________________ ____________________ Anyone and everyone with memories of the Neilhouse days. Share them here... leave photos, stories, flyers or whatever you want in the comment section.
Send the link to your friends that visited.
NOTE: I don't want to be elitist about this, but this profile was not created to add numbers to your friends list . This is about the hardcore/punk/indie rock scene at a certain place and time. If you have no interest or knowledge of those things, then please don't add this.
One last thing: This is for people's personal profiles, I want to try and avoid adding bands and other profiles that aren't actual people, I think that leads to more converstaion and less advertising. Thanks.
