The Blues Band (a.k.a The Tangiers Blues Band)

About Me

The Tangiers Blues Band is all about ... drinks. The Band started many years ago as post-Thanksgiving therapy [what would give one the blues more than a meal with your entire family?].The original jam session consisted of Chris, Huey, King, Dave and Danny, joined by Mick Jones [Foreigner], Patty Smythe [Scandal] and John McEnroe [7 time Grand Slam Champion, and he plays guitar!]. After that night, da boys knew they had something special. The band added "Lonesome" Dave on bass and "Sneaky" Pete on keyboards and began gigging around New York at such places as Shine, Joe's Pub and the Hog Pit. Whether it was playing traditional blues like "Stormy Monday" or down-dating a modern classic like "My Sharona" into a Mississippi blues stomp, their notoriety grew as did their legendary bar tabs. They started a Monday night residency as the house band at Amy Sacco's Lot 61, playing for such fans as Bono, Gwen Stefani, Michael Stipe, Bruce Willis, Gavin DeGraw and Lars Ulrich. Bruce, Gavin and Lars were inspired enough to get up and jam with the band. The band members are: "El Millionaro" A.K.A. Huey from Fun Lovin' Criminals-slide guitar. Platinum selling artist with a wax figure in Madame Tussauds and the only living Puerto-Rican/Irish lap steel guitarist. "Waterside Slim" A.K.A. Chris Scianni-anything with strings. Has played in Dangerman and Echobrain [with Jason Newsted of Metallica] and is also undefeated in match play with sometimes doubles partner Johnny Mac [see above]. “King” A.K.A. King from Cooley High-vocals and guitar. NYC nightclub legend and Page Six staple…No one handles a velvet rope like he does. “Dangerous” Danny Clinch-harmonica and vocals. When he is not busy taking pictures of everyone from Willie Nelson to Pearl Jam at his day job, and known as John Varvatos’ favorite photographer, Danny can be seen playing harp with da boys. “Chico Baja” A.K.A. Dave Borla-drums. Also in Dangerman and Echobrain. Was once a member of The Beaver Creek, founded by the infamous Jackie Starr, touring the world and performing in large theatres and small stadiums. “Sneaky Pete” A.K.A Pete Levin A.K.A. “El General”-keyboards. Has played in most of the bands that have come out of New York in the last 20 years…Seriously. “Lonesome” Dave A.K.A. Dave Sellars-bass. Since Dave’s mysterious disappearance after a show a few years ago, which is not Mob related, Brett Bass has quietly stood in until the case is resolved.
