About Me

Comradely greetings from antonio Gramsci. I was born in Sardinia in 1891, and died in Rome in 1937, at the age of 46. The writer Toni Negri characterizes me rather well, when he says that I was a "communist and militant before all else" (Empire 451, n26)--even if he gets everything else about me wrong.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Karl Marx--so that I could speak with him and determine which of his writings, if any, represent the hard core, the essence, the true spirit of Marxism (even if he would chafe at it being called that), and which, if any, represent an epistemological, interpretive or otherwise break, a discontinuity with his earlier and later work. Nikolai Bukharin, so that I may criticize his ideas without having to disguise my own criticisms and vocabulary for the benefit of Mussolini's censor. Leon Trotsky and Vladimir Lenin, so that I may discuss further with them the fate of the Soviet Union, and the science, or shall we say art, of revolution.

Introductory Lesson

Okay. Let us begin to look at Gramsci. Before doing so, however, we must delineate the prerequisites that antedate the development of individual cognition,--specifically in the sphere of politics an...

"Gramscianism"

I will attempt on this blog to explain to you--over an extended period of time--my ideas, or at least the interpretation of them by my posthumous narrator. There is a vocabulary or a discourse, which...
