About Me

A preface to a story yet to be written... No Man's Band was formed under the grey skies of the 2007 Parisian summer. Paul, from New Zealand, moved to Paris in June to join Nico and continue a collaboration which began in Nico's hometown of Lyon in 2006 where they played together in a group called "The Obvious". The search for a rhythm section began and the pair were joined soon after by bassist Naoh, Nico's co-worker in a soulless instrument megastore in Chatelet. In late July Chilean drummer Cristian joined the fray, and a demo cd was recorded in Destruction Incorporated studios in August. The real group work started after this cd was recorded however, as the four set about finding a style that represented the diversity in both their national and musical roots. The past four months have been spent in the practice studio refining and in some areas greatly altering the sound of this first recording, as the compositional influence of Cristian and Naoh have their impact. While garding a 60's and 70's rock/blues bent with strong 90's grunge undertones, No Man's Band has concentrated on providing space for the full expression of each instrument and a solid groove to tracks that were previously presented in a heavier arrangement. The set has started to take shape and No Man's Band will be ready to present the product of its summer's work in concert venues around Paris as of November.
Chapter One...And then November arrived along with a divergence in artistic directions which led to Cristian leaving the group. A long winter was passed in the search of a drummer, during which time Paul and Nico played a couple of acoustic gigs to keep the cogs of the project turning. And then at long last in early April the back beatless trio found Nico and a busy month practicing has produced results the group are eager to put out there. The first gig will be on the 5th of June at the OPA, Paris Bastille, with France de Griessen.
