About Me
My name is David Tancon. I am 34 years old and live in
Vancouver British Columbia. My greatest talent is my ability to sing. In 1994 I was involved in a band called Whipping Post. We formed a group three guys in their early twenties, Me singing, Shale on Bass, and Todd on Rhythm Guitar, Sean who was 27 on drums, and Ray who was also 27 on lead guitar. I loved Pearl Jam, Shale loved Punk and the beginning death metal, Todd Metallica, Sean Megadeath, and Ray loved everything. We practiced for three weeks together, learned 21 songs, and played a Halloween show that featured 6 bands, and 750 people in attendance. In a secret, hidden place, with no cover charge, a generator, an old concrete warehouse that had been used for satanic rituals for years, and hundreds of cars lined on a dirt road with all the Police in our small town wondering why the hell all the kids in town had left it to come up to a dirt road in the middle of a logging road to party. 6 bands were on the bill. We opened the show. Played all our 21 songs, took over an hour and a half. The other bands went .. us. Problem was the other five bands weren't real acts. They were kids, with dreams but no work ethic. They had no singers, and no complete songs. The mood grew dim later on in the night after poor musician and poor musician tried to perform on the lit stage. Finally the kid who hosted the show begged us to go back up again. To provide good music for the anxious crowd. We did. From 11 pm until 2 in the morning we played our songs, and sometimes even played them a second time. The night ended with me in the middle of the floor, with the microphone, singing release in a circle of about a dozen girls. Release, the Pearl Jam song. The song that made me want to understand how to release my emotions through my singing voice. My trained choirboy voice seeking to grow into something manly, something proud, and something strong.Whipping Post is gone now. But that first show, will always be my greatest achievement of my life.
