About Me

The songs on this page are from various periods in my musical odyssey...
"I Got My Eye On You" was for my first band, The Nitecappers, and was the first song I ever wrote (actually, co-wrote with longtime friend and Nitecapper singer Bruce VanderBrug, who supplied some of the lyrics), and was also the first song I ever recorded (in 1985). Actually, Bruce was supposed to sing the song in the studio, but he chickened out, so I had no choice but to give it a try... Our bass player wasn't quite up to par yet, so I played that, too, and we didn't have a drummer yet, so Kim Larsen, the owner of the studio and a damn fine all-around musician, stepped up and did a smokin' job despite never having heard the song prior to a few quick warmups... Fellow Nitecapper Shawn Cunningham ripped through the lead in one take, and he also sang backups with me...
After The Nitecappers folded, I went into the studio in 1990 to do some demos for a solo project. I wrote the music for "Time" and Bruce helped me out with some of the lyrics... "Last Day" was actually a hybrid song: part new tune that was written mostly by me (with some help from Bruce), but I ripped the chorus off of a smokin' tune that Shawn had written a few years earlier... At this point, I had no drummer to work with, so I programmed the drums. And since I wanted to record these songs at my own pace & my own way, I decided to play all of the guitars, the bass, and sing all of the vocals. So these songs are pretty much "All Hef." For better or worse...
Later in 1990, I played rhythm guitar and sang backups in my cousin David Tweed's band, the Lollipop Factory ( http://www.myspace.com/lollipopfactory - check it out!!), and shortly thereafter I hooked up with Ron Kustes and played keys, percussion, and sang backups in several of his groove/soul/rock projects, including Zumbuladelic, Jive Turkey, and Television Child. In fact, you can hear me on keys & vox on two of his tunes - "Get Together" and "I Got You" - at http://www.myspace.com/spookyjones . Check out his current project and some cool tunes at http://www.myspace.com/officialsistermorphine .
Currently, I'm singing and playing guitar in SoundCake - click for website, or - http://www.myspace.com/soundcake , an Orange County, California-based party-rock cover band with Acey The Rocker and MickSlick ... I'm also working on some new originals (demos will be up soon!), and - eventually - Slick and I will get back to writing and recording tunes for another original project, NoneZipZero. Our first NZZ demo - "Get Out Of My World" - is above; it's a simple tune with a simple message to all the idiots and morons out there. I wrote the tune and played most of the instruments, while MickSlick handled the lead guitar and production... More demos coming up soon...
