I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I =really smart- I can see around corners and stuff; a minimalist living in a maximalist's body; proud Liberal; just a regular guy with well-defined, maybe eccentric tastes, pop culture generally gags me; I thrive on/require challenge--the physical is less a reflex than the mental, so I'm trying to balance the two; I've settled into the role of observer here lately, which has been surprising for me, both benefits and challenges; umm--I'm fascinated with cosmology, physics, thought
I ♥Words, People Who Dance To The Off-Beats, Constructing and Publishing Crossword Puzzles, Physics, Chihuahuas, Single-Malt Scotch, Film, The Ocean (immeasurably), Mountains (in doses), Drums, EDM, Symphonic music, Clubs, Anime, our iMac (if you have one, you understand)...
In truth, there is only one love of my life and his name is Adam: my partner-in-crime for 6+ years
What I Value Most In a Friend
1. Well-Articulated Musical tastes
2. Large Vocabulary
3. Independence
I am clinically bipolar, whatever that means to you.
To me it means battling quasi-psychotic depression, or
bouncing off the walls like a Care Bear. Fortunately I am:
Mental Floss:
I'm fascinated by memetics and the belief that ideas actually do have lives of their own. ~a meme is basically a self-propagating unit of cultural evolution resembling a gene~ Thoughts are just discrete units that are copied from one person to another. There is a real parallel between culture...and quantum physics, virology, even natural selection. The observations, implications and possibilties raised by memetic researchers right now spin my head around..not sure how much of it I agree with, but it seems noteworthy, if not portentous. I love reading about it.

I believe (but allow for the fact that I may be totally f-ing wrong) that matter, antimatter, dark matter/dark energy constitute the entire universe, and perhaps multiverse. These constituents are merely consciousness (information)- the Primary, Only ingredient. Furthermore, everything that exists may be reduced/expressed by one super-wave equation, and humans can theoretically find that equation by using Fourier Transforms and other complex mathematics. Supernaturalness is a fallacious and pedestrian concept. "God" may only be expressed or known through mathematics. True prayer should be a means by which we get rid of some of our own ignorances about ourselves.

It seems to me that---in most cases--religion is the ultimate cop-out. More specific, 'religion' based on 'dogma'; this includes the fundamental literalists, in all their manifestations. Not for everyone, of course; there are many intellectual and curious-minded people of faith who haven't denounced or ignored reason and science as a means to conduct their own quests for truth. What baffles me is just how many people have abandoned those quests, or never embarked on them in the first place.
I am a proud atheist with immense respect for the faith-minded (I'm using the common definition of 'faith,' here as belief in some sort of transcendent, supernatural reality). I disavow faith, which many people pity me for because they see my life as deficient, and see me as being deprived somehow. What they have trouble understanding, and I admit, what I usually have trouble explaining, is that this disavowal does not preclude me living a profound and spiritual life.
I believe that all of us basically believe and take comfort in the same principles, but it's the lack of communication that leads us to misunderstand/misrepresent/fight wars/and torture each other.

Constructing Crossword Puzzles: Published in New York Times--not a Sunday one yet, but I'm working on it :), Los Angeles Times, USA Today, Random House (several different collections), Universal, Games and Games World Magazines, Tribune, Monthly in a Local Mag., and I'm Currently Working On Two Personal Projects. I'll try to get a page going on here soon.
Let me know if you'd be interested in a personalized one for you/your business, or as a gift to a family member/friend; I did one for a guy who asked his girlfriend to marry him in the puzzle :) Yeah, it's been done before, I wasn't the first and mine wasn't published, but I'm pretty proud if it.
