"GANGSTA KING: Raymond Lee Washington"
... The Definitive History of The Crips and The Man Behind The Gang
... Hosted by Robert Stack
THE SOCIAL AND RACIAL UPHEAVAL OF THE 60'S SPARKED THE CREATION OF POLITICALLY AND SOCIALLY ACTIVE CLUBS. GROUPS LIKE THE BLACK PANTHERS TRIED TO PROTECT THEIR COMMUNITIES FROM THE VIOLENCE THAT WAS PERPETRATED AGAINST THEM IN THE NAME OF RACISM. THE DEMISE OF THESE GROUPS LED A YOUNG RAYMOND LEE WASHINGTON TO CREATE HIS OWN CLUB WITH THE SAME IDEALS AND POLITICAL IDEOLOGIES THAT HE ADMIRED. HE FORMED ONE OF THE MOST INFAMOUS AND FEARED L.A. GANGS, THE CRIPS. In an exclusive first-time interview, GREG "BATMAN" DAVIS, an original member of the Crips, sheds light on the group and the man behind it all.
Greg "Batman" Davis, former gang leader, is the founder of both "O.G. Productions" and "Let's Save the Babies". Batman knows exactly where his heart is: "saving the babies." "Let's Save The Babies" is a grass-roots non-profit organization that collaborates with other community-based organzations to provide counseling to 'at-risk' and youth offenders, to provide training and education to others in Gang Intervention, to implement Tutoring Programs for youth, Literacy Program, Teen Awareness, Recreational and Field Trips, and Community Beautification Program.
Batman firmly believes in no color lines, no boundaries, kids are kids, parents are parents! Batman began working with children, teenagers, and adults in 1990 from city to city, state to state, with the help of a powerful and committed staff.
Batman was a Consultant / Gang Prevention Counselor for 11 years with the Amer-I-Can Program, who's Founder and President is Jim Brown. Batman knew then, without a doubt, this was his calling as a former member of the Crip gang in Los Angeles, California.
At age 13, he found himself going from juvenile hall to the California Youth Authority, and then spending some of his young adult life in prison. While doing his time, a light came on in his head that lit up his soul. He knew then, he had to make a change and turn his negatives into positives.
After being released from prison, Batman began speaking in schools, churches, and prisons. He even went back as a free man to speak in the very prisons where he was once incarcerated. He spoke at neighborhood centers, and to anybody who would listen to the stories of his mistakes. He gave them the recipe for getting out of gangs and out of negative lifestyles.
Batman's untiring labor of love for the youth keeps him traveling to personal engagements in major cities such as: Detroit, Green Bay, Trenton, Las Vegas, Omaha, San Francisco, San Diego, Texakana, etc. Batman always goes where he is needed. His key supporters are the cream of the crop: Jim Brown, Ice "T", Barry White, Rosey Grier, Detective Stinson Brown, General Ganzia Washington, George Cook, Minister Joseph Jennings, Quincy Jones, Magic Johnson, Patricia Bailey, Tyson Price and many others.
Batman's goals are to open youth centers in every major city. These centers will provide after-school care programs, with a motivational curriculum of self-respect, self-esteem, goal-setting, and will integrate Batman's own life experiences and training. Batman has already spoken to thousands of youths, and he knows that there are millions more to reach.
Batman's community goals are to work with others to see the community restored to a place of peace and prosperity. And through youth programs and business enterprises, empower the people of the community to face their challenges through unity, education and hard work. Batman's example of hard work and commitment to the cause of keeping peace in the community and saving the children, is inspiring others to get involved with making the community safe and prosperous.
