SAHLAH’S BIOGRAPHY:Sahlah has become an inspiration to those who have fallen victim to disabilities after a car accident left her in a wheelchair for 6 months. After having back surgery to correct the problem, Sahlah recovered using BellyDance as a means of intense rehabilitation. Now recognized as one of the areas most and unique BellyDance artists, she has since become one of the most sought after instructors, choreographers and performance artists in the area. First seen as a “Rising Star” at the Tulsa Blues Festival in 2004, Sahlah has since visited many states teaching and performing. Sahlah draws upon an innate understanding of movement instilled from 20 years of training in various forms of martial arts, which she incorporates into her dance style. She began practicing BellyDance in 2002. As a continuing student, Sahlah has studied with many reputable Middle Eastern dance and music teachers from around the world. Some of the most influential moments in her education include time spent with Middle-Eastern drummers, with whom she studied and observed the dance, and learning to play the doombek (Middle Eastern hand drum), which impressed a great understanding of the varied Middle Eastern rhythms, as well as the relationship between the music and dance. Sahlah’s lifelong love for dance, music and culture has prompted her to explore and study other forms of world dances such as, Brazilian Samba, Salsa, Tahitian, Ballroom dance, Hip-Hop and African dance. This background has given Sahlah a style that is uniquely hers along with a great command of movement and dance that comes to life not only in her inspiring performances, but also in her gift as a teacher. Based in Owasso, Oklahoma, Sahlah can be found teaching at the Owasso YMCA and performing at various events, as well as restaurants and clubs in the area and abroad.Words like hypnotizing, captivating, and riveting have been used to describe the performances of the beautiful Sahlah Suhaylah. She looks like she is living the music when she dances and like every beat is breathing through her. Once a performance starts, it is almost impossible to take your eyes away. "I just wanted to say you totally blew me away. You are an exceptionally beautiful and talented person … absolutely riveting to watch in performance … a total surprise!" Says Peter Dolese, of the Oklahoma City Arts Council. It is no wonder she has been named Best Bellydancer in Oklahoma by the Middle-Eastern Community and Bellydancer of Blues by the Oklahoma Blues Society Magazine.BELLYDANCE CLASSES:I teach BellyDance at the YMCA in Owasso, Oklahoma. Class schedule is as follows:Monday: 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Wednesday: 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday: 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.Monday morning and Wednesday evening classes are Intro to BellyDance classes.
