George Levantovsky

About Me

George discovered music at the age of five and soon after started taking piano lessons. At first he concentrated primarily on the piano until the age of 20 when he found his calling on the tenor sax. In 2004 he received a scholarship to further his studies from the Harlem Jazz Club in Turku and for the semester 2004-05 he went to the Kuopio Academy of Music and Dance taking lessons from Kari "Sonny" Heinilä. There he played a solo part in Henry Walking’s "Powell Canyon", or three pieces for jazz quartet (sax,p,b,dr) and symphony orchestra, the premiere of the piece in Finland. In 2005 he began studies at the Helsinki Polytechnic (Stadia Pop/Jazz department) taking lessons from Pekka Pylkkänen, Esa Pietilä, Timo Lassy and also private lessons with Manuel Dunkel & Joonatan Rautio. Year 2007-08 he will spend at the Jazz Department of Rotterdam Academy. Next to improving himself as a musician, George has always been interested in composing and open mindedly pursuing his own musical preferences.
