About Me

Neutron Crush is a one man band of Laz Novak.

Laz Novak was born in New York on December 7th, 1971 and he was meant to become a guitarist. He had his mind set on playing guitar since he was 6 years old. His Dad, however, had something else in mind and arranged music lessons for Laz. So when the music teacher arrived, Laz was expecting to play guitar. Needless to say, he was shocked and confused to see the music teacher carrying a square-shaped case, later to find out it was an accordion. Not surprisingly, he didn’t play the accordion for too long cause his mind was set on guitar.

A few years later, his sister Sylvia was given a guitar for her birthday. They both started guitar lessons and shared her guitar because Laz got tired of the cheap rental guitar he had to play with. It didn’t take very long before he totally confiscated his sister’s guitar. He stopped taking lessons at the local music store and started practicing by himself. Laz mainly listened to and played Iron Maiden songs and just messed around writing his own songs. Around 1986, Laz got himself a new teacher, Mike Bauer – which was a friend of the family - who taught him the basics and helped him become a better player.

In 1989, Laz formed his first band called Thin Line. Most of the material was written by him. Unfortunately, they played only one live show and then broke up. In 1992 - while he was still in Thin Line - Laz took guitar lessons from John Petrucci, guitarist of Dream Theather. After the break up of Thin Line, Laz joined a new band called Arrival. Again, most of the songs were written by him. They played many live shows and it looked very promising for a while, but sadly enough, the singer quit and the band fell apart. With the bassist of Arrival (Steve Gerraputa), they formed Trance, but they broke up only after a few months. Then, for a short period of time, Laz was in a band called Storyteller, but only recorded a few songs that were never finished. In 1996 and 1997, Laz didn’t play with anybody and just focused on his drawing, which is one of his other talents. Determined to have a succesful band, Laz went to Florida in 1998 to join Level 11. They played a few shows in the area but due to circumstances, Laz quit the band and went back to New York in October 1998. Back in New York, he focused on his drawing again and later he started giving guitar lessons in a local music store.

In August 2004, Laz moved to Florida and it’s there where he started to write solo material. His debut album, Awakening is available now. Currently, he has started pre-production on his second album which will be released early 2008. Lookout for updates on the album’s progress. Laz would like to thank everyone for their interest and support and hopes that people will listen to his music with as much pleasure as he had when creating it.
