BAVUBUKA FOUNDATION

About Me

The Bavubuka Foundation is a nonprofit organization that believes connecting youth with music and the arts can transform lives and unify diverse communities.

Bavubuka is dedicated to creating spaces and educational programs that will nurture and empower a new generation of young leaders in Uganda and all of Africa, who will use their voices to communicate positive messages and affect positive change in their communities and the world.

With approximately 54% of its population under the age of 18, Uganda is a nation in critical need of spaces and programs that offer alternative education options to youth.
Using a holistic approach, Bavubuka hosts workshops, film screenings, discussions, recreational activities and educational lectures which provide a platform for Ugandan youth share their talents and express themselves.
The Bavubuka Foundation's mission and vision is strengthened by supporters who donate money to fund our programs. Volunteers who donate their time and energy are also essential to our success!

BAVUBUKA ALL*STARZ The Bavubuka All*Starz Music Project was the first project launched when the Bavubuka Foundation was established in 2005. Ugandan hip-hop artist, Silas Balabyekkubo a.k.a. Babaluku a member of the legendary hip-hop group, Bataka Squad, created this project because he recognized the power of hip-hop as a tool to educate and empower Ugandan youth.

Based on the assumption that we are all stars in our own way, the Bavubuka All*Starz Music Project creates unique opportunities for Ugandan youth to write, perform, and record their own music!

Bavubuka All*Starz combines the elements of MC’ing, breakdancing, graffiti art, and spoken word poetry. Through their participation in Bavubuka All*Starz, Ugandan youth are able to use hip-hop music to advocate for positive change in their communities.

Bavubuka All*Starz was featured in the documentary film "Diamonds in the Rough: A Ugandan Hip-Hop Revolution" directed by Brett Mazurek. View the Film Trailer here:

BAVUBUKA SPORTS PROJECT Bavubuka All*Sports is founded on the belief that group sports promote cooperation, improve health, develop self-confidence and provide much-needed leisure time for disadvantaged youth.

It is incredibly difficult for most Ugandans to support their children in recreational activities due to the difficult economic situation. Bavubuka Sports maintains strong relationships with the people who struggle to facilitate entire teams of young athletes.

BAVUBUKA GIRLS The Bavubuka Girls Project is the latest project launched by the Bavubuka Foundation. Bavubuka Girls is dedicated to empowering, educating, and enriching the lives of Ugandan girls ages 6-16. Learn more click here!

Promoting sisterhood and leadership, Bavubuka Girls provides adolescent girls with a forum in which they can define themselves, discover their self-worth, and determine their futures.

BAVUBUKA FILM & MEDIA PRODUCTION PROJECT Led by Bavubuka Co-Founder, Aaron Elton, the Bavubuka Film and Media Project uses the various media arts to facilitate dialogue among Ugandan youth. This project enables people to create and interact with productions that promote global unity, cultural awareness and mutual understanding.

By bringing new technologies to the Ugandan people, Bavubuka Film & Media seeks to create the solutions to global problems through a new media movement which encourages individuals to recognize their unique importance and potential on this earth.
