FRIENDS 4 TROOPS . O R G
Friends For Troops is a local organization. Our organization is based off of the needs of our men and women overseas in hostile and non hostile territories. Our mission is send care packages to our Armed Forces with what they might need or what they might want.
We send toiletries such as: shampoos, deodorants, toothbrushes (2 per person otherwise their toothbrush will go to their rifle), toothpastes, soaps, lotions, razors, etc. We also like to send non-perishable food items such as: Beef Jerky, nuts, hard candies, M&Ms (they don't melt and they are chocolate), skittles, Easy Mac, etc. Along with food and sanitary items we try and include some toys. A lot of these men and women are young, between the ages of 18-25 years of age. We like to send cards, dice, mini footballs, basketballs, and soccer balls, Frisbees, travel games, and poker chips. Around the holidays we try and send a little extra cheer. We send decorations, cards, and presents. Presents can include, but are not limited to; Socks, shirts, cds, cd players, books, magazines, puzzles, film, phone cards, squirt guns, etc.
In every package though, we supply items to help the men and women write home. We supply envelopes, pens, and paper. We also include as many letters as possible, including one from both me and my partner. Another item we tend to include is at least one camera. A camera to take pictures with and to receive a picture of them. We hope to post a picture of every platoon we help and to post a little bit about them in a Blog.
Other items we tend to include in every package are: gum (a five pack a person), two eye drop solutions, lotion, magazines, a book, newspapers (they like to be informed too), chap stick, GoldBond foot powder, On-The-Go Charmin, travel Kleenex, Stay Awake, two different kinds of coffee, Powdered Creamer, Spices, Travel emergency kits, menthol sticks for sore muscles, toothpicks, condiments from different fast food restaurants, and if needed, feminine hygiene products. For occasions such as birthdays or holidays, we ask about each person's preference of celebration (when needed), and supply decorations. We'll send cards, letters, and pictures. We also tend to send a little piece of our home. Since we live by the beach we try and send a seashell.
Magazines we try to include are magazines that have to do with sports, different hobbies, national interest, and feminine fashion magazines for the women. We try our best to keep things light hearted since a lot of what is going on over there isn't.
All of these LITTLE things mean so much to them. We try and help them keep their sanity and make it not so lonely. We try and keep them updated to what is going on over here, while they keep us updated on what is going on over there. We try to make them life by sending comics. Pictures drawn, or stories written also bring a little joy.
There is one thing though, that delights these men and women the most. LETTERS. Letters help keep up moral and restore hope. Some of these men and women don't get letters and feel alone. Letters from kids, letters from adults, ANY kind of letter is nice. Once again, we try and keep it light-hearted. Letters don't have to say much, just enough. They can say as little as the weather and groceries, or as much as about your family, your kids, and your vacation. I like to call it "meeting and greeting through letters."
We do not make any cut or money out of this organization. We make ABSOLUTELY NO profit. What we get in return, which is more than satisfying for us, is a letter from a platoon saying thanks, pictures, and the amazing feeling of helping our Armed Forces as they help us in their time of need.
