The Guardian Angels are a volunteer community safety patrol group founded in 1979 by Curtis Sliwa.
Guardian Angels Toronto is managed and operated by volunteers who live and work in the City of Toronto from the communities of Scarborough to Etobicoke, and other areas of the Greater Toronto Area. Guardian Angels Toronto is one of over 60 chapters worldwide. Our chapter conducts weekly safety patrols on the streets of Toronto.
The Goal of Every Guardian Angels Toronto Team Member on Patrol is:
Safer Streets by providing a visual deterrent to crime
Preserving Our Community by reporting suspicious activity
Assisting Our Neighbours and Visitors
Supporting Our Emergency Services
Guardian Angels Toronto Patrol Mission
The primary role and goal of every Guardian Angels Toronto team member is crime prevention resulting in safer Toronto streets through visual deterrence.
We strive for maximum visibility on Toronto streets by wearing red berets and jackets to visually deter criminal opportunists and to make ourselves accessible to residents and visitors who may need our help. Without the red beret and jacket, we are just another person on the street whose motives are not known to law abiding passersby.
We are not police or security guards and have no special legal powers or authority. We are ordinary citizens, who are specially trained to observe & report suspicious activity to police, and to assist in an emergency through our training in First Aid, CPR, AED, Fire Safety and WHMIS until the arrival of emergency services.
We are trained in self-defense for our personal protection only, to be used only in the event that our life is in danger and as a last resort.
We offer our Toronto team to help out during community emergencies such as disaster relief, and missing child searches as well as special events.
Every member of our Guardian Angels Toronto Team receives training in Guardian Angels Orientation, Patrol Procedures, First Aid / CPR / AED, Basic Law and Legal System, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Crisis Prevention, Self-Defense, Report Writing, Psychological Communications (Psy-Comm), Radiocommunications and Fire Safety.
