Maurizio Mercuri artistic works combine imagery and lightness with a sophisticated awareness of the fundamental directions in which twentieth century art has developed. mercuri's personal, deconstructive and stimulating approach to conceptual art of the 1960s and 1970s refers to, and personalises concepts used by artists like John Cage, Gino De Dominicis and Marcel Duchamp. The artist places the originals in a contemporary context in an extremely humorous manner via a conceptualist overlapping technique in which time and language play a decisive role.
He is interested in creating a union of tension and pastime, where everyday materials and images build a parallel world filled with the natural and the artificial. The creation of each of his pieces could be described as the final consequence of a creative, recreational process, a magnetic mix of words and things, tension and pleasure, where normal mental paths are diverted in unexpected directions of sense.
