About Me

This layout was handmade with love by the folks at My space or yours? using original artwork by Marah Johnson. Go get one!
I'm in the early part of Act III of this 'world as a stage'...and feel like it's the most creative yet, after nearly forty years of writing and making music. I've had the pleasure of playing with (and learning from) so many talented and generous artists. In turn, I hope I have been encouraging to those I have met along the way.I believe movement, mathematics, magic and music make universes. Space defines the form...and crafting defines the gift. You must believe in yourself...not as star or diva but as journeyman in a unique fellowship of artists.Besides music, art, writing, and Free-Spirit ministering, I am caregiver and advocate for my adult daughter, Anna Hart, who has been dealing with chronic Lyme for ten years. Anna is not just my daughter, but also my friend and musical colleague. She performs and records with me when she is able.I believe I'm a lucky woman to live this life...and I work hard for the luck...that's life!

Question of the Day

Question asked: Without the courage to ask questions, the artist becomes nothing more than an entertainer.  Is that true for you?   My answer: An artist should always remember that they are...

Intent

I want to sing landscapes in your mind stark and serene as a Chinese water colour, the grey green and white of rocks, trees and clouds, I want to give you a melody quick and deep as a Japanese Haiku d...

Dear John, All My Lovin

My daughter was born on December 6th 1980.  Of course she was fashionably late (her due date being November 19th ) making her entrance in Huntington Hospital, Long Island.  The thing is, if ...

Cathartic Kick Of The Mule

One of the greatest gifts of working in the music business in New York, for me, was the friendships forged in that magic onstage, within the music itself.  Though a long time gone from Gotham, th...

So, we meet again...

I met an Elder First Nations man on the side of the road.  His eyes were like a solar eclipse, the burning gold outlining black pupils in the misty hazel sky of each iris.  His thick gl...

Manhattan Island Shines

In September of 2000, I went back to New York to visit with my son and old friends for a couple of weeks.  One evening my good pal Kate took me on one of those party boat rides that go from ...
