..
My name is Pier Giacalone. I'm a producer/engineer with 20 years of professional experience in live and recorded audio. I've been a musician since the age of 7, studying classical guitar for years and earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Composition and a minor in Jazz guitar from the conservatory at SUNY Purchase. Both as a player and an engineer I have toured the US, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe, etc, playing in venues ranging from small clubs to Radio City Music Hall and everything in between. From the Bowery Ballroom in NYC to the Roxy in LA and the Metro in Chicago I've worked in many of the great rooms around the country.
As a recording engineer, I began working on analog tape and have followed the development of digital audio from the first Digidesign systems and the first 24 bit DAW (Sonic Solutions) to the current systems such as Pro Tools, Nuendo, Samplitude, etc. Most importantly I have had years of hands-on experience with the very vintage hardware that so many digital plug-ins are trying to emulate today.
Live Recording is also a specialty of mine. My "travel rack" includes a customized-for-audio laptop from Sonica Labs, an RME Fireface 800 Analog to Digital Converter, as well as audiophile mic preamps from Great River and Speck Electronics. Just added Onyx 800R 8 channel mic pre/converter for a total of 18 track recording in the mobile rig. Also included is specialty mics like the Shure Beta87 condenser that delivers studio quality vocal sound in a concert setting.
As a side benefit of live recording, the sound quality of the show itself is greatly improved by using the better mics and mic pres.I have a killer mixing room in New Hope, PA where I can take live tracks and craft them into an experience that delivers all the punch and excitement of the actual performance (and then some). Additionally my extensive experience in CD mastering allows me to deliver mixes that are 100% finished. No additional mastering necessary. Loud, punchy and dimensional rock, subtle, detailed and fully nuanced acoustic music.
Live recording clients have included Regina Spektor (40 + shows), Jeff Daniels (yes, the actor), and avant garde composer Jandek (as well as many others).

Pier just got copies of the new DVD/CD produced by the MCCLV Church in Allentown, PA "Build An Ark". Pier played guitar for this annual recording of the Church choir/band. Musical Director Brian Jones produced. MCCLV (Metropolitan Community Church of the Lehigh Valley) is an "inclusive"-oriented ministry where all walks of life are welcomed (including Atheists like Pier :). The recording session was a blast. Wonderful people, wonderful music.

09-15-08:
That's right! We packed up the kids and headed off to the country. New Hope, PA just over the Delaware River from NJ. About 1.5 hours from NYC and around 45 minutes from Philly. Pier has a great new space that he's currently making musician-ready. Initial mixes and mastering are sounding great. Pier is looking forward to offering bands from both cities and the surrounding area a relaxing place to work where the view from the studio window is an acre of grass, trees and yes folks....we have a real life babbling brook (actually more of a conversational creek). Stay tuned for pics and music samples!
