A rich firmament of burnt copper earth stretches far beyond horizons. It is desiccate, uneven, and quakes as if to be sure of the placement of all that depend upon the supportive ground. Its cracks and fissures run as deep as the height of its peaks. It encompasses all, meeting and forging below the sea, complimenting and punctuating the sky, steadying and nourishing the foliage. Upon the earth stands a great tree whose roots, twisted and mangled, run deep beneath the crust. The bark is conundrum hard. The branches tangled with vines. Many wandering eyes peer out emitting songs like that of both thunder and snow. Fruit of despair and solace hang from the ash colored branches. As they ripen their scent of cinder and coal permeates the night, wafting into the ocean blue-black sky. The fragrance curls among the clouds that block only a few of the lightening bright stars. Long wisps of smoke-like vapor encompass and glide across the moon. Far past the reach of the grey clouds hangs a celestial orchestra whose light reflects off a deep mechanical sea. Waters pulled by the moon swell and slap the surface reverberating rhythmic wave after rhythmic wave into endlessness. Fruit of the tree shaken by the dissonant jolt of the earth fall ripe and bleeding to the ground. The fruit of despair and solace roll along the earth’s shore meeting the sea. Green-blue waves crash atop the fruit shattering it on the salt-worn rocks. Think black juice spills from the pit staining the green-blue waves, soaking the earth’s aged shore, and seeping through the tree’s twisted roots. The sky thirsting for what sea, earth, and tree have already consumed evaporates the infected water swallowing it into the clouds. Each thirsty gulp blots out star after star until all is obscured. The somber pitch of the night is black and the sky is full. Satisfied the glutton mists purge themselves of the crude black matter from within the pit, percussing the juice on every surface - softening the conundrum hard bark, filling the deep crevices of earth, and replenishing the dark expanse of the sea. The black materia born from the fruit of despair forced from the pit of solace has saturated, nourished, and lies fermenting in earth, sky, sea, and life.
