Filf Dos is a male/female hip hop duo from Chicago. The name, pronounced "filth dose," is derived from the name of lead MC, Filfy, and the fact there's two people in the group. The second half of the dos is DJ/Producer JiVE. Their music combines experiential lyricism about relationships, art and addiction, with the musical influence of golden era east coast hip hop and modern broken beat.
Their collaboration started in New York, where they were part of the ten-piece live hip hop collective Rare Faction Crew. While working with RF Crew, Filfy and Jive developed a unique chemistry based on their mutual audio production talents, DIY promotion aesthetic, desire to actually dance at a hip hop show, and penchant for raps about women.
After the split of Rare Faction, and Jive's move to California, the pair continued to work together via the internet until a management offer (now defunct) made them realize the group had potential beyond a side project. As a compromise of location, they moved to Chicago to take advantage of the flourishing music and art scene while trying to make a name for themselves in a city that knew nothing about them.
The decision to dive full force into the group was a successful gamble. Filf Dos has carved a niche as a group that effectively bridges the seemingly giant gap between lesbian/queer performers and the male dominated underground hip hop scene. Their dual appeal is evident from their stage performance history that includes queer icons like God-des and She, Team Gina, and Scream Club -- as well as Chicago hip hop luminaries like Qwel and Rashid Hadee.
Filfy has appeared internationally as a model for dykesinthecity clothing in magazines like GO, Curve and Velvet Park. Jive is the resident DJ at the renowned Chicago open mic "20hz/20khz".
