About Me
Joe Mantia Drummer, vibist, composser ,singer was born in NY,Ny May 16 1951. His father also, an artist influence him into the jazz world at an early age of 9.,He started studying Drums and vibes privately with henry Adler a well know teacher at the age of 16 , and had his on jazz group called the jazz prophits doing Jazz clubs in Harlem Ny, such as the Savoy manner, and the celebrity club. His passion for jazz even grew stronger as he got older. In the seventies and eighties he was busy doing some studio work with such names as Joe Newman ,and performing on stage with Barry Rogers, Arnie Lawrence , Harold Alexanda,Asha Putla,to name a few.He also was involved with a group called Aqureain Dream which was produced by norman conners in the late seventies . He decided to move to the catskills, upstate ny in the late eighties ,because work was becoming scarce in the City.He was offered a gig at the concord Hotel in a trio setting doing the lounge ,and some shows and, also performing with Erskin hawkins. In the early ninties he was offered to do the Raliegh Hotel to sing lead vocals and play drums an cut some shows with the Louis landon group, which consisited of Louis on piano, Jon hart on bass ,Sam Morrison on sax . Joe is now currently involved with his own Trio called the jazztione Trio or Quartet .and a group called Revival and another The Blues Connection. He recently performed with Hugh brodie , John Espisito, Don Miller ,Nina Sheldon , Chris Sullivan ETC. Joe can be heard on Louis landons CD called love songs and Jazz. Joe mantia was also a regular artist on live Jazz from studio B 90.5 in Jeffersonvile Ny peforming witth local jazz cats.
