Sounds Like: "The brainchild of Glasgow-based Joe Rodger has been on my radar for a long time now and TVQ have been gradually gaining plaudits from all over the place for the past year and a bit, and it's about time that the people of the world bow to (their) genius.
With a sound as warped and unique as his mind, Joe narrates the scene of a place where muggings, murder and general wrongdoings take place in hallowed fairgrounds, haunted soundscapes and twisted nursery rhymes.
I'm a firm believer that talent prevails, it's just a shame that most of the majors haven't twigged on yet. With the industry in the transition that it is, it's people like The Velcro Quartet who may prove to be its future champions.
- Carl Howard, Illegal Tender
"Get ready; The Velcro Quartet is the sound of disparate souls dunking for candyfloss-coated fear apples in a vat of caramelised insanity. And if that doesn't get your juices flowing, imagine Klaxons writing the musical numbers to a Nightmare Before Christmas sequel and you'll be about millionth of a fraction closer to understanding..."
-NME
"The fact that they hardly ever play any gigs merely makes each infrequent appearance more of an event... Sample their brilliantly disturbing racket for yourselves."
-NME
"Electro-glam? Surreal circus pop? Moody-electro? Yup, the lot, all in one splendidly confusing package....Actually, no, they’re better than that.
It’s so bamboozlingly, bizarrely brilliant I want to jump around with a fucking great grin on my face and play it far too loud in the office just for the looks of totally confused horror on my colleagues’ faces...
It’s camp, it’s ferocious;....this really puts the fun right back into writing about music, really it does."
- Song, By Toad
"To my addled ears they’re the musical equivalent of the waltzers - it’s carny music gone wrong and seasick and all over the place. In a good way. There’s some kind of sinister camp childhood shenanigans going on, like a bad seed magic roundabout, full of cider and amphetamines."
- Cows Are Just Food
"Full of pulsating bass lines and sharp twists in both time signature and musical theme, he treads the insane/genius line with consummate ease."
- Illegal Tender Magazine
"Borne of the precocious side of the petrie dish"
- Error FM
"The Velcro Quartet is the musical equivalent of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang...
The music is made up of perfect pop sensibilities and possesses more hooks than the back of a butcher's shop...Songs so sugary they could give you diabetes after just one listen.... Think sunshine, lollipops and a massive dose of cyanide!"
