About Me
Untitled - MERZ #1: A experimental film made by a good friend of mine... this is good stuff check it out!MY LIFE IN THE EYES OF HANS RICHTER:
"Schwitters was absolutely, unreservedly, 24-hours-a-day PRO-art. His Genius had no time for transforming the world, or values, or the present, or the future, or the past; no time in fact for any of these things that were heralded by blast of Berlin's Trump of Doom. There was no talk of the 'death of art', or 'non-art', or 'anti-art' with him. On the contrary, every tram-ticket, every envelope, cheese wrapper or cigar-band, together with old shoe-soles or shoelaces, wire, feathers, dish clothes - everything he had thrown away - all this he loved, and restored to an honoured place in life by means of his art."
"But instead of being grateful to this man for the happiness he gave to us and to all his unregarded objects, for the inexhaustible wit he applied to the juxtaposition of tram-tickets, nail-files, cheese-paper and girl's faces, for his many poems, apophthegms, stories, plays, in which the loftiest senses went hand in hand with the profoundest nonsense - and were united in the deathless language as boy and girl are united in springtime - instead of being grateful for all of this, we allowed him, a German painter and poet, to die unrecognized in poverty and exile, and protected only by an English girl, Edith Thomas, and an English farmer by the name of Pierce."
" Schwitters' art and his life were a living epic. Something dramatic was always happening. The Trojan War cannot have been as full of incident as one day in Schwitters' life."
