My name is Alex Dingley, and The Deep Cuts is my primary creative outlet. The lineup of musicians in the group has changed a bit throughout the years, but at the core, it's just my attempt at scratching out some musical ideas. We dabble in electronica, rock, and some quasi-industrial music. Between 2004-2005, we played several shows in the Philadelphia area before going on an indefinite hiatus. Work is once again underway on new songs and eventual live performances. For now; Please enjoy what little I can post here and share it with your friends.
A little about the music, and the history.
Most of our sound is generated using electronic instruments; Keyboards, samplers, computers, and whatever I can bang on loud-enough... On early songs, every single component was just me and my instruments, but eventually I felt the need to branch out and work with someone else. I found a guitarist by the name of Mike Yahner. His style was unconventional but worked well with what I was trying to accomplish. After a few years of scratching things down in my home studio, we ventured out to start a performing group and met up with some more like-minded musicians. We met Doug Ritts when we posted an ad for a bass guitarist. He responded to my ad and after meeting, we knew that we'd have to work together. His style of play and his musical background became an immediate source of inspiration for my writing. He introduced us to a drummer named Brian Duffy. His background was impressive as well. With a music degree and almost 20 years of performance behind him, he was a very capable addition to the band. After only 5 months of work together as a band, we began performing live.
Most rock stories contain some sort of conflict... and this one is no different. Eventually, working within the context of the group made it clear that we would make more headway as a trio, and the original guitarist was cut from the lineup. A difficult decision, for certain, but it had to be done for many reasons. As it turns out, the bassist, Doug, was a phenomenal guitarist... and he stepped forward with a mighty sound. This was how things were meant to sound.
After a year of work as a trio, I ended up pursuing a job offer in Florida... which broke up the band. I felt it neccessary at the time to jump at the opportunity, and in April 2005, I moved away... disbanding the group.
... So now it's gonna be 2009 soon. I've been working a lot, and the music has been on the back burner for a long time. I'm working on it again... solo for now. But we'll see what happens.
