for good luck
parents gave me a flammable body
a bit of gasoline is enough
in a dress's flimsy folds
just a smidgen of sulphur suffices
on the darkened tiny head of a match
do not talk to me about love
do not reminisce of the forest's smell
of my young hair
of fingers
I ignited this pile
to cast light on earth
blindly and in darkness I used to go
do not reminisce of fingers
do not conjure the smell
look -- I burn of love

I still do not know why I did it
I had a mother and a father and a little brother
who did pranks while running to school
I liked animals and I made friends even with stars
I cried at the dying of every flower
why oh why did I do it
newspapers wrote about me
a certain news photographer was able to record
my dimming remnants
not a lot
a handful or two
mother was unable to decipher the name from ashes
brother fidgeted and when seeing
her gone blind from grief ran away
street sweeper poured sand on the sidewalk's dark stain
I still do not know why
absent homeless on the wind I go no one wants to notice me
one has yet to lay a hand on my head
yet my hair is soft and shining like a summer day
a mouth made for kisses...

my childlike faith was
killed by atrocity
I could have written a tragedy
or a poem
I could have raised several children
taught them to hate
I could have entered my own house
opened the window
breathed in the evening air
listened on the conversations of leaves
I could have smiled at people
said good morning
said bye bye
said oh madam what a lovely dress
I could have tamed a cat
it could have walked by me step in step
maybe even died when
I died
long time ago
I lived through it all
in quick eyeblink
now I am nothing
oh rock me to sleep of conscience
do not gaze into the dimming embers
