I am here for Friends

About Me

I was a poor neglected part of the city of Little Rock until I was rescued by a very important woman, Mrs. Louise Loughborough. She saw that I would be a way for future Arkansans to learn about their heritage. With help from the state government and the WPA, she gave me a much needed facelift. I went from an eyesore to one of the most beautiful areas in downtown Little Rock.
When Mrs. Loughborough found me, I was just a group of old buildings but as other interested people came along the vision grew. Now I have become not only a collection of historic homes, but also a state of the art Museum Center with 7 galleries, a theater, and a fabulous Museum Store!
In 1981, HAM, as I am sometimes called by my friends, became the state's first history or historic site museum accredited by the AAM (American Association of Museums). And The Arkansas Museums Association named me "1981 Museum of the Year."

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Anyone and everyone! I like to meet all kinds of people: locals, tourists, regulars and school children. Just so long as my visitors come between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. But once a month I stay up late to participate in 2nd Friday Art Night, so we can hang out until 8:00 p.m.!

Since I work so hard most of the year, I take a break on Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

I would always like to meet other historic house museums, historic buildings, history and art museums, state and national parks, any pioneer oriented groups or societies, fiddlers, blacksmiths, bladesmiths, national landmarks and state capitols.
