About Me

Mike Appel, American Singer, Songwriter, Musician, and Producer. Best known for his role as the producer of Bruce Springsteen's s "Born to Run" album, Mike is a true songwriter at heart. In the 60's Mike was writing songs for publishers, producing Michael St. Shaw, and playing with Tex and the Chex, an interracial New York group that also included Alan Gordon (who would record with the group the Magicians, and become half of the successful Gordon-Bonner songwriting team, most famous for the Turtles' "Happy Together"). He was also part of the Balloon Farm and co-wrote their 1967 Top 40 bubblegum-garage-psychedelic hit "A Question of Temperature." In the late '60s and the early '70s, he continued to work as a songwriter and producer, producing and co-writing for the hard rock band Sir Lord Baltimore, and writing songs for the Partridge Family.
Mike exited the music industry for personal reasons in the 80's to do some work in the film industry, but soon returned on the publishing and artist development side. However, Mike has never put his pen, nor his guitar down.
My debut album, "When Chance Gets Lucky" is available now on itunes and most major digital retailers!
In reference to the inquiries I have been getting on Bruce Springsteen and I: Bruce and I did not break up for creative or business reasons no matter what the legal briefs might suggest. It was simply a matter that he felt he'd found somebody (Jon Landau) that could take him to the next step and that our relationship had run its course. There is no animosity between Bruce and myself nor is there any between Jon Landau and myself. Everyone is on friendly terms and has been for many years now.
I'm also looking to do some production work in the studio with bands/artists that I mesh with. Please contact me for more information.
