Manufactured Acts with large budget major companies are the most popular in today's society. They are not vocalizing their personal experience but have a team of writers and producers spoon feeding them with 'safe' and mimicrised music.
These same Acts make it incredibly hard for artist's who are
1. Not signed to a major,
2. Not surrounded by spoon feeders
3. Based in a country where Black artists hardly ever sustain their career for a long period, while White Artists doing Black Music reap definite success.
4. Want to bring unique ideas to the music table.
This means that we rarely hear music that reflects the experiences of our community. We never hear what the boy or girl next door has to say. This also means that we are being starved of REAL music that reflects on the social, political, economical and spiritual issues that we face on a day to day basis. Isn't the foundation of Black Music in the Western world based on cultural resistance?
Because I recognised these subtle strategies of oppression, I AM WHOLEHEARTEDLY resisting the culture of dumbing down, brainwashing, and mass targeted music.
